Tire inspection?

I have about 3500 miles on the stock tires. The middle of the rear tire has a worn area about 2" wide, in some spots the tread (groove) is alomost gone. What am I looking for? I will be ordering a new set but wondering if there is an apparent danger point that you know of. Who has a good deal, I am looking for the milage rather than twisties capabilities. thnx.

3500 miles on a BT56 your riding pretty hard.
Seen riders wear out every last bit from their rear tire. Waiting to see exposed cords. Exposed cords a sure sign to replace the tire.
I noticed wear bars inside the treads similar to car tires. But motorcycle tires aren't flat across entire surface on the ground. So a wear bar could indicate alot of tread but the center tread is worn out. Their not best indicator to change out the tire. But if the wear bar is worn even with the surface, it'd be prudent changing the tire.
For wet conditions, Winter or Summer Storm. Tires should be is best condition possible.
Worn tires get flats easier, due to thinner tire thickness.

Parts411 others recommend does have best prices. Like yourself I'm looking to get better mileage from the rear tire. No experience with them, But narrowed it down to Perilli Diablo Strata or Metzler Road Tech Z6. Leaning toward the Diablo Starta cause had get experience with the Diablo Supersport tire. The only thing the widest the strata goes is a 180. It'll turn better with smaller profile. 190 looks better, more center tread contact.
It tried BT20 and it gets a hell ova squared off. The Diablo ran a square off, but very little. Figure the Strata will likely do the same, Minimal squaring as it wears.

i got almost 7000 miles on my stock tires.... and thats with showing off numerous times for people by smoking the tire for minutes on end.... i changed to the battlax 014 200mm when i saw the steel belts wearing through the tread!

I got over 12,000 on my BT's. The 2" wide ware pattern just means you need to get that thing off the highway and hit the twisties more.

I can't remember if the tires have ware bars on them or not. There is a raised bar in the tread that once it is flush with the tire it's time for a new one. If you see a white thread like substance in the center on the tire you went to far, replace the tire now.

They have wear bars but they are kind of hard to read...just got 4600 miles on my rear tire, and te front is still looking good....I ran it to the cords....as soon as I saw one come through I went to the shop the next day....

I think you can get around 8000K on a front tire....went to a 200 width and it looks good....

Guys PLEASE don't wait until you see cords to replace your skins!

Thinner tire = higher potential for flat. At speed.......well, trust me, it raises your pucker factor...big time!

Once it wears flush to a wear bar, its time. But you can push the rear if money's tight, don't push the front its way too important to have a front tire!!

My wear bars were not flush when the first cord appeared....mainly because of a lot of highway mile on the last tire....RIGHT DOWN THE CENTER

I feel lucky to get 2k out of a tire on mine but i run the metzler M1-P (designed for the busa). I order one when it looks like it is getting close and change it when the little white line is showing in the middle (looks like woven twine or string). This is not the recommended approach to tire changing but it works for me. Between time at the track and the concrete hwys around here the tires dont last long enough to even scuff up the sides really well.

Make sure you check all of ther wear bars, and if you are down to any 1 of them, it's time to get a new tire. On the stock BT56 there is a wear bar at (or very near) the center. I got about 4100 miles on my original. I am down to the wear bar only in the center, but plenty of life looking at the rest. I'm taking the bike in this week for the replacement. I need to spend more time in the twisties, the tire would last longer.

I'm not sure how you guys get 5K+ out of the B56.....I just came back from a 900 mile ride and I'm almost at the wearbars, got 2800 miles on it. I do not spend a lot of time going straight either.

No big smokey burnouts, but I do like that throttle!!!

just swapped my rear out @ 3200 miles. went with the Pilot Powers. WoW what a set of tires! even during the scrub in they were sticky! They make cornering easy too with the larger contact patch! Highly recommended
