Tire Life regardless of tread remaining?

So I recently learned that car tires should be replaced every 5-6 years
even if the tread looks good and new because the rubber deteriorates and
can rot from within and fail.

This must also be true for motorcycle tires. How often should I change
my tires? I don't rack up too many miles. 2,xxx miles in the last 2 years.

I would also think it would be extra crucial for bikes because the tires would
start to lose some of its grip..

So I now have 2 years and 2,xxx miles on my Pilot Powers.

Is it time to replace them soon?

lol.. two years on pilot powers? Let me borrow them for a day..

I got a ct2 put on on the day I got a speeding ticket. The day of my hearing (two months later) the tire was showing cords.

I wouldnt feel bad replacing them after two years if i were you.:beerchug:

"TIRE AGE: Motorcycle tires should not be used after five years from date of manufacture. Tires contain Volitile Organic Compounds (VOC's) which help keep the rubber flexible and grippy; as tires age, the VOC's leach out. Certain conditions can accelerate this process, including extremely hot and excessively humid or dry environments, parking on certain forms of man-made carpeting, certain molds & mildew forms (which may accelerate or even cause what is commonly known as "dry rot"), as well as overheating the tires due to low tire pressure or hard use."

According to the service manual we should replace all rubber hoses on the bike every 4 years as well, not to mention coolant every 2 years, clutch/brake fluids every 2 years, oil every 6 months whether its ridden or not, and a million other money making items. I replace whats needed, when its needed...clutch/brake fluid when its dark, hoses when they start to get hard...my tires when they're worn out, on my cars AND bikes  Alot of those recomendations are worst case scenarios and covering legal as*ses, bikes parked outside exposed to the elements etc. I have 18 year old garaged bikes that have needed nothing but normal maintainence . Its really more about common sense.

I don't have a garage and the bike stays outdoors under a cover
