I need some help.... I've got Bridgestone 014 200/50/zr17's on the bike and I hate them. I'm not a hardcore rider, so I need something that will last more 2k miles. Any suggestions? Preferably something thats got soft sides but a good wear middle....

Avon storm st2 amazing tyre with amazing grip, 3000 miles done and I would say I will still get next season out of them, maybe another 2000 miles, only now have they started very slightly to square off, I ride quite quick but not what I would say really hard, I can't see past them and will be replacing them with the same again

Agree with Paul, Avon Storms are great tires. The Pirelli Angels will also work well. I switched to Dunlop Q-2's only because I started tracking my bike. My next set of tires for the 09 will be Storms.

Q2 front and Roadsmart Rear. Low price, great sticky front and hard but sticky rear.

Avon Storms for me. I've been using them since my bike had 16,000 miles on her. She now has 86,000+ miles and I'm not planning on trying something else anytime soon. Excellent in the rain, too. Never let me down.

I've posted this up before but I'll give a quick run down on my tire preference.

If you are a casual rider who spends much of your time cruising with the occasional twisty romp, this is my view on tires. The front tire is the control point of every motorcycle. You can loose traction on the rear and it's no big deal, loose traction on the front and chances are you'll find yourself on your head. After tasting the asphalt on more than one occasion due to front tire grip, I have come to the conclusion that I want the front tire planted. I don't run touring tires on the front, ever!

Although I am a performance tire guy who has learned that sticky tires are much cheaper then plastics, when I have the need for mileage over performance I purchase a sticky performance front tire and a dual compound rear which gives me a long life center with sticky stuff on the sides.

Last year I chose Bridgestone's BT016 front and BT023 rear. This combination worked flawlessly. Could drag a knee whenever I chose and the combo lasted 4500 miles. I could have purchased longer life genuine touring tires but I would be giving up performance. With a high performance tire on the front and dual compound touring tire on the other end I had the best of both worlds.

I'd be just as happy with the same combination of tires from other manufacturers such as the Dunlop Q2 front and Roadsmart rear. I choose the Bridgestones over the Dunlops due to price. The idea is to keep the front planted while extending the life of the rear where most of the wear occurs.

This is just my own opinion from past experience. It works well for me! If you spend most of your time in the canyons by all means stay with a performance tire as tires are indeed cheaper than plastics!

but do the performance front and touring rear warm up at the same rate:poke:

Bt016s or Q2s for you! you cant go wrong with either of them. I error on the side of having more grip then mileage for any of my bikes tire! Especially bikes with lots of power!

I'm running a Q2 front and Roadsmart/sport touring rear as TufBusa recommended.
They wear even front to rear, as opposed to me having a sport rear tire wear out 1k or more miles before the front.
I have just over 3k on the set and they're about shot, but I'm so happy that they wear evenly that I have another set waiting to go on. I usually get 2500 to 3k front, and 1800 to 2k rear with sport tires. More mileage can be had from more conservative riding:laugh:
The sport touring tire isn't the same as the sport, it's not a track combo. But it works great for the street for the heavy and tourqey Busa.
I also have no chicken strips at all, front or rear...none. They heat and stick quickly, and evenly.
A great combination!

Well Bret, let me ask you ???

Does a fat girl warm up at the same rate as the prom queen?

:poke:

From my experience the fat girls are always warmed up. The prom queens have been ridden so much it would take a torch to get them above room temperature:whistle:

I like an honest man!

If you would have said "I've never ridden a fat girl" I would have lost all faith in you!
