TL peg mod help

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good place to source TL pegs for the busa?

Is this a simple swap, one for the other?

Any problems with added vibes because of the lack of rubber?

Thanks all,

opdsgt

Edit: $82 a side from Ron Ayers? Guess I'll be sticking with the factory busa pegs.

I am using 96-99 GSXR750 pegs on mine. They are the solid alumnium like the TL pegs. I actually believe they are less "buzzy" than the stockers.

I can get the pegs as well, much less than $82. Give me a call or shoot me an email.

Why not go with the Buell pegs? They're certainly inexpensive (under $30 for the pair) and work great. There are links to threads on installing them on this and other Hayabusa sites or you can email me and I'll tell you how I did mine (as well as the shifter mod to match).

If you would humor me, post here. I'm sure there are other new guys to the board who'd like to know the process.

All ears....

Okay - go here first:

Then go here:

The Buell peg's mounting area is thicker than the opening for them in the Busa's peg mounts and the holes in the pegs are larger than the Busa's peg pivot pins, so some machine work is required but it isn't anything you can't do yourself.

I used GM door hinge pin bushings to solve the hole mismatch (two bushings per peg, one inserted downward in the top hole from outside the peg and the other inserted downward in the bottom hole from inside the peg) and ground the peg's mounting areas (top and bottom) with a bench grinder until the pegs and bushings j-u-s-t fit into the peg mounts.  Then I finished the machined areas with an air-powered die grinder (Dremel tool would work well, too) with a 3M aluminum surface conditioning disc.  Works like and looks like factory!

You could do the same work with a file and emory paper; it would just take longer.

Thanks Ed!

Edit: As an alternative, has anyone out there tried, say, passenger busa pegs up front? Or is this roughly what you'd wind up w/in going with the TL mod?

Anyone out there w/TL pegs care to post thought/photos?

After reading through some of the info in the threads provided, this is the only thing that concerns me... melting my Alpinestars and touching down (I do ride spiritedly in the turns).

From "rumble phish", about halfway down the first thread:

yeah, ya gotta watch out for that. Puts your heel almost on the midpipe. The midpipes on mine don't seem to get TOO hot (compared to my ZX12) not hot enough to melt my boots. I actually put my stock pegs back on (after I took off the the rubber and the weights) because the Buell pegs were scraping WAYYYY too much. Now I put'em on if I'm gonna take a long distance ride with no or little twisties. But when it's time to carve up a road the stock pegs go back on.

I have no problem with ground clearance - but then, most of us looking for more leg room aren't agressive riders anyway.

As far as heat goes, I notice nothing more than with the stock pegs and I ride in rubber soled soft leather shoes.

I wouldn't think rear pegs on the front would do anything for you. They'd be about the same height as the stock front pegs and a lot smaller.
