To anyone that's ever painted a bike...

I'm going to take the fairings off myself and strip the old paint off of them...is this done with chemicals or with fine sand-paper and if so...what type is used? I figure if all the paint shop has to do is paint the parts and I do everything else...it'll cut the costs for me somewhat. Plus, I have a friend that owns a body shop and he says he could tackle painting the parts so hopefully this won't cost as much as previously quoted. I don't want to spend too much repainting the bike when I have to pay for school, bike payments and ins. still! Thanks

I think I've taken half the bike apart trying to get the side fairing off...how do I reach those screws on the inside top of the fairing? And is it possible to have just this fairing painted back to factory instead of re-painting the entire bike?

Sounds like you may be tryin' to separate the lower fairing from the inner. The black inner stays attached to the top of the lower and comes off with it. You remove the big plastic push rivet and one screw on each side's inner panel in the area below the grips. It takes a little maneuverin' to get it off, but the inner comes with it.

If that's not what yer talkin' about post a pic showin' where the screws you're referrin' to are.

Ok...yeah, I thought the inner stayed on the bike and the side fairing came off seperately...I'll just have to play with it for a little while and hope I don't break anything.
