Well, it's basically the BRC on your bike. When I took it last year, it was the old course that was half videos and classroom stuff but this one was almost completely on the range. I took it at a BMW dealership (Bob's) so was hanging with mostly beemers (one kid on an R-R is going to walk out and get an '03 'Busa when the '04's come out, I'm convinced ).
It was ok. The 'Busa got a little hot to the touch but didn't overheat. Not bad from being at parking lot speeds for, like, six hours in 80 degree weather. It did give me grief when starting after a break, and think the battery was a bit low. My fault for running the dual HID's all day, but I was feeling a little obnoxious with all the beemers running around.
Yes, I got some crap from the other riders ("reliability?" "chain drive?" "buddy with one has no range"). I'm used to that part, though. My last bike was a beemer, and although there are many great folks and excellent riders in that crowd they can be a little...fixated...on that "fine german engineering" thing.
But...hey...it's good to be king, and I was able to keep pace in all the swerves, stops, curves, etc. The ERC is good for what it is, and I think everyone should take it once in a while so they can have an honest few hours on their own bike practicing key skills in a controlled environment.
OTOH, it takes place in a parking lot. On most bikes today, all of the key skills need to be perfected "at speed," which means the ERC student has to be able to take what they learn there and make an effort to practice on their own -- which mostly, I suspect, they don't (I don't much).
Makes me look forward to my track day at the end of this month even more. Can't wait to see what I'm made of .
