Hi i just wanted to know if it is possible to remove the top speed limiter on the hayabusa. I know it is illegal to do that but i just wanted to know

Welcome to the board ...!

Yeah you can de-restrict the busa. Go get yourself a SMART TRE ... It is available on eBay, and you also might want to checkout http://www.schnitzracing.com

If you want more details, Pros/Cons about the TRE... then do a search in this part of the board, and you will get not less than 10 million results about it

...No its not illigal to de-retrict your busa. Its not a legistation in any country to restrict all the bike to 186MPH... but it more of a Memorandum of Understanding between various bike manufacturers!!

I got my '05 Busa almost a month ago now, nearly 2000KM on it already, Yoshimura full Duplex race system installed, power commander 3 and Dyno run scheduled tomorrow! So far i'm simply in love with the bike... Now for the topic:

I did my first top speed run yesterday, at the limiter's 299KMH limit... Now i was gonna install a smart TRE on the bike but i figured after that run that it was pointless... The speedometer wont indicate more than 300 anyway, the end of the needle's travel corresponds to the speed limit!!!!! So unless i replace my meter with an aftermarket one that i wont even be able to trust the precision from... I wont even know my speed above 300KMH!

So for my part, unless its for a radar run or competition, its useless to get rid of the limiter. I personnaly don't believe you will be able to tell the difference between 299 and 320KMH just by the feeling of it, its hard enough to find good spots to keep that kinda speed up for more than a few moments (Here in Quebec anyway).

I dont know if its the same situation with the UK and american versions which reads in MPH!?!

I need you gps. to modify it.
using the resistor makes the bike think it is in 5th all the time. the smart TRE still thinks it is in 5th all the time except neutral.
the GPS mod, makes the bike think it is in the correct gear that it is in except 6th.
so 1-2-3-4-5-5 is what the ecu sees.
