Transmission problems

I was wondering if anybody could help me out, I am having issues with the trans on my busa and any info would be greatly appreciated. I have a 2007 Busa with Bolt on mods, 1st gear is fine, no problems at all but 2nd gear is getting really bad and 3rd gear is also going aswell. what happens is when in 2nd or 3rd gear with me on the bike (325-340lbs depending on weather/gear) the bike skips teeth in the gears, it will let go and then reclick into the gear and it scares the **** out of me, especially when in corners because I'm not used to this. is there anywhere that I can get stronger internals for my tranny and what would you guys all recommend I get. I live in Wisconsin, about 35miles from Madison if that helps at all (any shops that would do it that anybody might know of)

Thank you very much in advance

Welcome! :welcome:

There are lots of threads about the transmission, try the search, it works very well.
It seems to be a common problem that can be fixed.
Some of the sponsors for this site have solutions that you can use.
Check them out in the Sponsor area.
Good Luck!

:welcome: I too have the same problem. I have an 02 Busa and mine jump in first. All I do is switch into 2nd. But as stated in other threads search for more information. O' where's the pics:poke:

That is a very common problem on the Busa. All you need to do is have it undercut and if it is already starting to jump out of gear then they engagement dogs are probably going to have to be hardwelded. After you get the gears undercut then you shouldn't have the problem anymore

Does a very hard 1-2 shift under load (full throttle with clutch) imply the same problems? It never jumps out of second but I do get neutral at the most inopportune time :banghead:

sounds like it might be the same problem. What happens is the engagement dogs wear and they don't hold together anymore, so it causes the gears to jump out of gear or to skip.

Thanks, Mike & Dustin. Mike, your thread on the EVO kit is awesome :beerchug:. The terrible weather here gives me time to disassemble and see what's going on.

Thanks again.

I will see if I have a gear set that needs to be welded and see if I can take a picture for you so that you kinda know what your looking for.

so if 2nd is jumping then why not 5th?

if third then why not 4th?

if the dogs are toast?

I think the gear sets have their own sets of "dogs" that engage as the gears start to mesh.
Just because the dogs are worn in one gear does not mean they are worn in another.

I can try and dig up some pics if someone needs them - let me know.

(my dogs are barking tonight - walked a long way today)
