Traveling dyno

Went to the Big Dog rally they have going on today. They had a traveling dyno there. Started looking on the board of previous bike and there was a zx-14 posted at 162hp. Seemed kinda low, but for poo and giggles going go go back and put the busa on see how much less it is.

There are a lot of variables in dyno reads, travelling ones espescially....

The current issue of Motorcyclist does a short road comparo between the FZ 1 and the ZX 14. It's sort of a how do they do in the real world/sport touring, etc.

Their dyno readings for the 14 are 175 HP and 106 ft/lbs of torque.

As above, I've read that each dyno produces somewhat different readings. The skill of the operator also comes into play.

yea I realize there is varations on dynos. I had my CBr dyno'd on this one last year and it was pretty close to what the mags were getting. Also the other bikes seemed about right was just kinda surprised how low it showed. Espically after walking by the Kawa dealership stand that had a 14 sitting there. Told them what it dyno'd and she said they were lying cause it has 192hp and the rear wheel no matter what a dyno says.

Not much faith in the mobile dyno's. When I had my 04LE, I had it dyno'd at a bike festival that we have here on one of those mobile things. Operator said that I had 136whp. Bike had Yoshi bolt-ons and a power commander. Now, the first run said 130whp, he made some adj to the map and re-ran the bike the final run was 136whp. There was some improvement but the dyno was set up wrong.

It was free so I didn't really care one way or the other.

Well could not resist so went and dyno'd bike today. Read out was exactly was I was expecting 151.8 rwhp. I was happy with it and like I said was about what I expected. This second bike I have run on there dyno and both times it was about what mags show it to be. Friend ran his '05 gixxer 1000 and came out 144. So I guess that is not bad for a 7 year old technology bike to be around only 10 below the new one ;-).
But then again would not matter would not trade my busa any for anything right now too much fun.
