Triple tree yoke nut

Ok, you know that huge gold nut that is on top of the triple tree that goes on top of the bar connecting the frame to the triple tree.

Last month I lost one. Didn't know if it vibrated off or got stolen. Suzuki replaced it for free. This time I tightened the damn thing myself. I didn't think there was any chance of this thing ever coming off. I haven't parked the thing outside once. I've kept it in my locked shed and when I gas up I use a credit card at the pump. Bottom line- it wasn't stolen, so it must be vibrating loose.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is is normal? Do I really have to tighten this thing after every fricken ride??

whoa, never heard of that one, best to lock tite that one. I seen the dealer torque it down before I rode my away and no problems since but I would definately lock tight it.

the torque on that nut is IMPORTANT!!!!!
and I bet the dealer nor you tighten it to the proper torque.
The correct torque is 65.0 ftlbs

Well my arm torque meter said I was at 66 ft/lbs so I should have been all set.

Seriously I did have that mother on there tight, but no I didn't use a torque wrench, so I have no way of measuring how tight it really was.

But thanks for the number. Knowlege is power. I'm going to bring that number to suzuki and make sure they torque the next one up right. (And a little loctite should help too!)

No loctite!!! just the washer and torque it.

NOTE: When I was setting them up at the dealership (that nut does not come on the bike in the crate)
I would wrap the outside of the nut with electrical tape so not to mark up the nut

The reason it is important to torque is due to the pressure it adds to the steering bearing.
