Tune for open exhaust?

My buddy just put a pair of chrome turndowns on his stock header.  He thinks its cool but whatever.  Anywho, he's got this mindset that the bike will blow up if he gets on it.  I just want some opinions on this.  Will the bike be too lean running open stock header?  He is going to get a tune but he doesnt know when the guy can do it.

Thanks,
Frankie

I've put almost 8k on open exhaust, so far so good no problems

What year? Most genI bikes run lean and need a pc. Alot of genII owners are not using a pc but IMO with open exhaust it will flow to much for the ecu and o2 and will run on the lean side.

Running lean will shorten the life of the engine. The engine needs to have a certain amount of fuel. Believe it or not, running lean can make a hotter combustion flame and therefore burn the pistons under high rpms therefore shortening the engine life. You wont notice it. It aint gong to just blow up under any conditions.

One day it will break and you can probably blame it on running lean.

Im running open headers too. No major problems to speak of. I had the shop down the street tune it slightly with his computer. Runs great and the looks from people are kick ass.
