OK, I have a thing for loud and I am really strung up between what I know I should do and what I want to do.
So knowing what I SHOULD do (so don't tell me I should just buy pipes, I know this is foolish by nature, but so are all inventions on some level) how can I do what I WANT to do?
Tuneable baffles are a straight pipe alternative for a lot of aftermarket cruiser pipes.
Basically they are just washer on a bolt (image below)
somemone else who has done it...

and another...

But with that in mind I want to think about taking the "concept" of the silencers (and mufflers) and using them on my pipes.
Currently, my straight pipe is about 9" long on both sides since I am still using the stock headers and mid-pipes. I intend to cut about 2" off of that dropping them to a solid 7" open pipe. Using the bandsaw to cut them should be easy since it's readily available.
So with the notes above, I know I need (one for each pipe) a washer that I can use for a base that will match the internal diameter of the pipe, should be easy enough to find (since the pipes have no bolts, I can just take it off..., in addition I need some of that perforated steel, and some plate steel that I can use to mold into a ring and weld to the washer base. I got all that. What I don't know is what kind of insulation should I use, and can I get it easily?
So, does anyone know what I should wrap the perforated steel with? I was thinking that fiberglass insulation would be an option since I can get it at home depot, but I don't know if it could withstand the heat of the exhaust.
Thoughts? Comments? Flames (since I know I will get them)?
I guess either way it won't matter if it fails because in the end I will just buy the Muzzys I was looking at...
