I can't believe this. Get home from a nice ride and I pull up to my mail box and grab the mail...I accidently drop a letter (Suzukui satisfaction survey of all things!) so I decide to get out of the road and park the bike in my driveway. Walk back to get the letter and I hear a crash!

Turn around there she is, laying on her side in the rock driveway. I have no idea what caused it to fall over, the side stand didn't sink into the ground, however it was folded up into the riding position when I picked the bike up?

Now it looks like hell. Side fairing is scratched all over and much of it can't be buffed out. Of course the front fairing had to get some deep scuffs too only a few inches from where it meets the main fairing. Mirror has some scuffs and the ball end of the clutch lever broke off.

Sooo...is there anywhere online that I can buy these OEM parts at a discount? Do the panels come prepainted?
And just out of curiousty how much $$$ am I looking at? I have a $1000 deductible and even at that there is no way I'd claim this on my insurance.

What a freakin horrible day.

a side fairing is gonna be $400 new or so I"m guessing.

Sounds like your bike rolled forward or maybe you didn't have the stand fully extended either way bad deal...

Shitty thing to happen, instead of buying new panels you could just get it repainted. The nice thing about that would be no stickers! Many years ago I had to have a side panel painted and it was much cheaper than buying a new one. Just a thought.

I feel your pain...I dropped mine two weeks ago. From then on I double check my kickstand to insure this does not happen again.

Thanks for the leads guys. Looks like that ronayers is about the lowest in cost.
I also dropped an email to Kath512, from what I've read her prices were slightly better. Anyone hear from her lately?

I may run the panels by the body shop on monday. There is actually no damage to the panels, just peppered the paint.
Stator cover took the brunt. I sanded that down to the metal and just repainted it a little bit ago. Looks like brand new.

What upsets me the most is that nose cowl had to get some scrapes...almost as if Suzuki designed the bike to take on extensive damage in a tip over.

The side stand has pissed me off from day one. It's almost gone over twice before during an oil change and while checking the oil level. With the slightest forward motion, that stand is ready to fold up. I've never owned a bike with such a tempermental side stand. Once down I always pull back on the bike to make sure the stand pushes all the way forward.

Where I parked, my driveway is at a very slight incline...must have been just enough for the bike to move forward.

I was totally against cutting the panels for frame sliders but that's just changed. I think a set would have saved me all this grief.

Hey Turbo,
I was also against cutting the fairing due to my inexperience with auto/motorcycle mechanic type abilities, but I have to admit it was not hard at all. I was given this website, http://sportbikeguy.com/garage/floor/frameslider.html , by a fellow rider and it helped 100%. If you notice the pics show a different bike but the concept is exactly the same. Follow it step by step and you can't go wrong. Secondly Ebay is selling some real nice frame sliders currently. I already got "Flame Sliders" but ordered a chrome set for just, and when, in case the cops pull me over for riding with blue lighted sliders. The mod on the kickstand that monster spoke about is also a definite safety feature, but in my humble opinion (don't want to take anything away from our veterans) BOTH would be SOLID modifications. 1)ensuring a better seated bike, but 2) for any other situation, perhaps while riding....should you decide to do the frame sliders either way....I hope the website helps - it definitely helped me!

? i love german rides

ALSO I ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT MY BARS ARE TURNED TO THE LEFT ... HELPS WITH THE LEAN ANGLE SO THAT IT DOESNT TIP OVER.. ANOTHE TIP AND I STILL MAKE SURE THE STAND IS SECURE.
I STILL NEED TO DO THE STAND MOD AS WELL THOUGH.. BEEN LUCKY SO FAR

Hey guys, thanks for all the great tips.

I WISH I SAW THAT SIDE STAND MOD POST BEFORE!!!!!!! I think that's a good sticky candidate.

I guess it'll take the bike falling on a kid along with the following lawsuit in order for Suzuki to do something about their design flaw.
Knowing that's it's an inherent design of the bike just pisses me off that much more.

I'll be ordering new panels from ronayers in the morning. I figure by the time I sell the old ones on ebay the price difference between new and a repaint won't be much different.
