Undertails

Does anyone know of an undertail that uses the stock style tail light.I already have a clear alternatives tail light. I dont like the 2 little round lights that all of the ones are using now.

Search for undertails and you'll see there are only a couple.

I put a Mototeck undertail on my Busa, didn't like the two round tail lights much and neither did the hubby...he modified the stock rear lens to go over the Mototeck undertail, rounded out the back of the bike again...it does it's job without having to redo the entire undertail...

The Mototek is hard to install and make fit properly. The push pull pins will not work well through the thicker plastic of the mototek undertail. You'll need to come up with your own idea of bolts, screws or

?? for attaching it to the bike. Also I fould the tail light to be very poor in daylight. Can hardly see the brake lights or turn signals on a sunny day. I just removed a Mototek from a friends bike and installed a Motorhead. I'm sure you could buy her mototek undertail cheap.

(Southside Playa @ Nov. 29 2006,12:05) What about Mototek?
I have a Mototek but the lights are a little hard to see in the day.  I replaced my turn signals with incandesent bulbs instead of the LED ones, and it looks a lot better now.

However, Mototek undertails do NOT use the stock tail light.  The one VA has is a Mototek.

Mine is an older style, which is how I could replace my signal lamps down by my tag in this photo.

Yeah, my Mototeck is the older style too, and I agree, the lights could be brighter.  I need to do what you did thebbbusa and get new bulbs.  Glad to hear they can be "fixed"

We just took the stock rear lens and drilled holes in the Mototeck undertail, fastened the lens cover over the two round covers...completes the look I wanted yet maintains the Mototeck I paid for.  I haven't had the issues with push pins...

That's the problem I see with all these aftermarket undertails; you can't see the signals and in some cases especially in daylight you can't see the brake light. I have a terrible time following someone with an aftermarket undertail. I love the looks of most of them and you can't beat the aero value of integrated signals v. OEM.

Purdy thebbusa. Need another shot of the one hidden.

Va, this is what I used. You CANNOT just swap the bulbs out, the cheesy housing will melt. But these lights below will pretty much swap in. You'll have to remove your undertail and then the turn signal lights. Then there will be a round hole that needs to be enlargened a little to make these fit. Then they look just like the original leds, except with better reflectors and better light.

When I get home, I'll see if I have a better pick of them. Seems I have one with the signal light on to show brightness.

I know my brakelight is a little hard to see, but my signals are great.

This little clip shows the difference between the stock LED blinker on the older Mototek undertails and the LP signal I replaced it with. It's hard to see cause I had to wire the old LED up to a battery for comparison, but you can clearly see the LP blinker is quite bright.

I am on the lookout for some round red bulbs to replace those too.

I agree about the bolts. But the install was simple... and this is from someone who NEVER installed a tail. Also, I have the 48-LED version and there is no way you can miss the lights in the daytime.

What I don't like is the directionals. Could have been better for the price. They just are not in the right location.

Overall, the tail is excellent and looks fantasic.

That is a SIGNIFICANT difference. Thanks for sharing! Which item number did you purchase?

The 48 LED bulbs are great for the tail, but I think they are pretty pricey, like $50.  But then again, you get what you pay for.  They weren't invented yet when I got my undertail.

As for which part no. I got for the turn signals, I can't remember.  I know the bulb is a single element (on/off) and the lens is amber.  I think they are mediums about 2 1/4" long.  I'll have to do some fishing around.  I am afraid that they might not make them anymore.

There has to be something similar out there....oval shaped flush mounted signal lights.

And for what it's worth, I thought the undertail fit well, and bolted up decently with the push pins.  I will probably replace the pins with screws eventually, only because I break a pin everytime I dissassemble/reassemble.

I may have found them...maybe they are smalls, cause this says smalls are 2 1/2" and mine are between 2 1/4" and 2 1/2", kinda hard to measure.

I did a Yahoo.com search for "Lockhart Phillips Flush Mount IV Marker Lights"

I dunno if any of the board sponsors have any of these or if they can get them.

Good luck.

I have the Clear Alternatives Integrated turn signal Crystal Clear LED tail light on order now. I'll show pics after the install.

I never used the pushpins that were included with the Mototech. I went to a local hardware store and bought some stainless nuts and bolts. Later, BrendanP hooked me up with some new ones.

I gotta get me some of those replacements for the turn signals. Thanks for taking the time to fish around for me!
