2 person project. More the merrier.
You will most likely need to replace the jackstand if it isn't stock height. So get that before you start this project! Check what type of dog bones you have. Stock ones are pretty cheap to come by. Someone on board might send you a pair for cost of shipping...
Take off side plastics and set then inside on the rug or on a blanket so they don't get scratched.
Take off muffler(s) and midpipe(s) So you can get at the links. set the on wrok blank or towels so not to scratch them. Grass etc....
Put on the hand grip bar that goes on the back seat area. Will help you holding the bike etc...
Have a means to support the weight of the busa. I used jack stands and a bar through the hole on the frame where the swingarm is attached to support the bike. Just make sure you have a strong enough bar that won't bend. It wil be a pain to get it out if it does. Remeber you are raising the rear so get bike up enough to put it to the height you want.
Hydraulic jack with flat piece of wood to jack bike up and down.
When doing rear, loosen the botls to remove the links. You can put some blocks of wood under the tire to support the rear while taking off the links. Remove the links and put new ones on. Install the top bolt 1st and don't fully tighten that bolt yet. Remove the blocks of wood and have friend move the swingarm up/down to line up the bottom link hole. thrwon bolt in and tighten it up(to spec). Then tighten the top one(to spec)... Rear is done!
Fron't will be easy and tricky. Bike is still support from the jackstand/bar setup! Take that jack with the block of wood and put it under the motor to support the bike there. Slowly jack it up with your friend(s) holding the bike to prevent tip over. Won't happen, but can never be to safe. Front tire should be comming off ground. You proably only need to go up1" to 1 1/2". 2" max. Now that she is up to the height you want.
Now take of the top clamp and remove the spacers. 4 bolts there.
Now loosen the lower clamp bolts holding the tubes in place. can go fairly loose with them.
Now loosen the upper clamp bolts holding the tubes in place,BUT don't fully loosen them! The GOAL is to loosen them jsut enough to where the forks will slide with some tapping of the RUBBER MALLET. Slide forks to where you want them. Check clearance with the top clamp(one you removed).
You dont want that top clamp touching the tubes. 1/16th of inch(or less) is fine. Reason is you don't want to transfer vibration from the tube directly to the top clamp which is where you grips are attached. Oh almost forgot to mention, Make sure you only remove the Metal spacers and leave the rubber like bushions. There there for the same reason I told you to not let the tubes hit the top clamp. Lessen the vibration to your hands. Make sure the tubes are equal height comming out of the top clamp.
Install the top clamp back on tighten her up and check the tube clearance. You might need to cut the BOLTs down in lenght cause they gonna be an inch to long or you can get rough measurement and go down to hardware store and buy new ones. Put clamp in place drop bolt down in hole and then allow room for the nut plus a few threads. Mark it. perm marker, nail polish,etc...
Tighten the bolts holding the tubes back up. To spec. DON'T over tighten them.
Slowly lower the jack. To rest the fron tire frimly on ground. Now is a good time to install the kickstand(iF needed).
Move jack so you can now raise the bike up to remove the bar and jack stands. Friend(s) holding bike to keep to steady. Lower the jack back down to rest rear tire on ground. Put her on the kickstand and check the lean. If all looks good throw on muffler(s) and plastics. Give her a good once over to double check things!
Take a trip around the block. If all is well.....RIDE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!
Been a while since I've did mine,so might be missing a couple minor details. What wrenche sizes you will need allen,etc... you will have to check for yourself. Doubt I missed anything Vital!
GOOD LUCK!
