Let's review...I was out riding with the vets after the last NOOB ride almost 2 weeks ago. Was accelerating through 9 grand in 3rd gear when the Mighty Busa stops accelerating. It was not bouncing off of the redline, no warning lights flashing, so I say, "WTF?" 2 seconds later the engine dies...just quits. A second after that BIG CLOUD of white smoke trailing behind bike. MY first thought..."Wow, pretty cool, looks like when the cars at a NASCAR race blow an engine...wait...operative words...BLOW AN ENGINE. Not good. Got the bike up to Coleman's(Woodbridge, VA) about a week ago after rescue mission. Thanks Nate and David for the help. MAD THANKS to Wilson. We were out getting my truck and Wilson shows up back where my bike is and sits with it for over an hour by himself because I expressed how uneasy I was about leaving it alone out in BFE. MAD AND MANY THANKS TO WILSON. I had only really met him on this ride, and he was not even in my group. The man is truly a saint.
When I dropped it off at Coleman's, I dealt with Josh. I have been dealing with him ever since. Good guy, Josh is. I am not a gearhead, eventhough I own many, many tools. I ask Josh about an engine replacement. He tells me that either the top end gave out or the bottom end gave out on the engine, and they would rebuild accordingly. Engine replacements are very rare.
Got with Josh over at Coleman's(Woodbridge) today. They finally have my engine torn down. He says it would be quicker and easier to tell me WHAT IS NOT WRONG with my engine! He says that one of the lifters was actually MELTED inside the engine. MELTED!!! Josh says that he has never seen anything like this before. I am going to need a whole new engine. He says that Suzuki warrany will frown on this and suggest a complete rebuild. He says a new engine would be better, repairs would be quicker, and by the time they got done rebuilding the existing engine, that it would be virtually brand new anyway. So he is going to push Suzuki until they agree about a new engine. I still have no idea though whether or not the warranty company is going to cover this. Maybe find out tomorrow. As long as they do, I am dropping the plastics off at the paint shop and getting a new paint job, new mirrors, new levers, maybe a Tobin seat, maybe get the wheels chromed...gotta price this all out. If the warranty company says no go, I am going to trailer whats left of the bike out to WVA, find a steep cliff, and push it off. Then report it stolen to the insurance company...j/k.
More to come...
