USABLE POWER

Guys

I have been thinking about this question all day and I even searched the board to find the answer. The question is :
What is USABLE POWER?
With all the modifications to be made out there for the Busa, what is the combo that delivers usable power to all Busa rider
I know that is a vague question but I am focused on the Busa and how it relates to the number of modifications needed to be a formidable opponent on the track with other hyper sport/super bikes. My initial thought is HP Ability = Usable Power. That is a biased and subjective view but that is what I am using as a base to start from. For example, a BMC filter, suspension adjustments (to fit your weight) and maybe a TRE. The price tag for those modification is considerably less than some others and possibly the best bang for the buck. Or is it the Holy Trinity: 1)Suspension, 2)Power plant, 3)Deliver System (Engine Management) which is the basis for any rider to begin to breach the realm of Usable Power?

I would free up some horsepower via weight reduction on your spinning parts, good air filter, PCIII and a solid pipe along with a properly tuned suspension for street riding.

via weight reduction? i think he called you fat

no just kiddin, gpw knows ths stuff

Tough to answer his question but I know where he is headed. It goes to the whole biking out of class, having more power than you can handle or will ever use. For the street, not strip. I think 168-173 and 101 foot pounds of torque is more than enough for whatever but the suspension needs to be tuned to enjoy all of it. Play with the gearing a little and things can get really hairy. Stock might be where to stop for less experienced riders it boils down to what you can handle as a rider and that varies person to person.

I would do the weight reduction myself. Cause that helps the acceleration and stopping power, along with flickability. I was just wondering, how much do stock rims go for used? I was looking at selling my stock rims when I had enough for the aftermarket rims. Not to thread jack, but was just wondering.

For some guys big power is great, they will probably use it.  But, stock power, plus pipes and pc with dyno as about as far as I'll be going.   Thats plenty of power for the kind of riding I do. I weight around 165 and sometimes I feel like a flag, on the beast.

GPW...awsome answear. Can you give me a little more in regaurds to the spinning parts? And what would you reccomend as being the first mod for the busa or any bike, given a responsable rider?

Good words from Greg here!

If you spent $4K on the bike making it better or $4K on some good track classes from Pridmore, Spencer, or Code.......which would make you faster?

Food for thought!

Wouldnt track classes make you good "at the track"? What about the rest of us who ride on straight line city streets with red lights every couple of blocks (use bike for commuting)???

You have a valid point, but it is not about being faster. Rather extracting/maximizeing the most usable power. For example... if the machine can only realize 80% of its maximum capacity from any rider pro or amatur on the street or track. That is what I see as it's usable power. It could take as little as and air filter and a pipe and the bike will only experieance marginal improvements.

i would dare to say that 4k at the track is money well spent...because eventually we all spend the 4k on the bike

Gosh I went through many parts before I got to the combo I used on THOR, now Sageronin's Busa. That bike is clearly sweet for the street.

- Marchesini or BST's for wheels
-520 or 525 Sprocket conversion (as long as power is in the 170 HP range)
-520 or 525 steels front sprocket and Sidewinder Tri-Metal rear sprocket
-520 or 525 chain: get the Sindwinder its either 14,000 or 16,000 tensile strenght in the 520-525 series which is stronger than a stock or 530ZZZ.

Power:

BMC Race Filter
All Short Velocity Stacks
GI-Pro ATRE (gear selector)
PCIII and Dynojet Quick Shifter
Royal Purple "Max Cycle" 10W40
Tsukigi Spec II Race or Standard System (under 200 HP the standard is enough)
Galfer Wave Rotors and Braided lines with HH pads
Dual Brembo 19x20 Master Cylinders

Suspension:

Axxion 20/20 Kit up front (spring spec for rider)
Penske (three way adjustable rear w/ ride height adjuster)
1" over raising links

All of the above parts were tried and tested after going through a series of other parts and exhaust systems. This is my recommended set-up for a street or twisty carving machine.

If street racing is more your thing don't do the 1" over drop the front and rear equally but no more than 1" as to not upset the handling and limits of the suspension and add a dry shot of NOS and mount the nozzles at the very beginning of the ram tubes so the NOS has time to turn to gas before reaching the throttle bodies, many screw this up and mount a dry system way too close to the throttle bodies were you lose most of what you tried to gain, wet system nozzles should be mounted right on the throttle bodies. If you go with this mild NOS set up get your custom mapped tweaked for the light spray.

Of course no matter what do, get it all custom mapped after everything installed and ride it like you stole it for a very long time with no worries....just my 2cents oh yeah you will need a little money to do it right. But this should save you a little guess work.
