Value of 2001 Suzuki Hayabusa

Hi! My name is Forrest and I recently bought a 2001 Suzuki Hayabusa as a project bike. When I got it, it didn´t turn over ( the starter clutch had gone bad), it was put away really well, the fuel was good and didn´t clog up the lines and it was garaged ( its been garaged all of its life) . Its only been ridden by experienced adult riders and has only been dropped on its right side ( it could´e been layed down but it doesn´t look that way) and it also has a clean title. What is the current demand for gen 1 busa´s and what would be a reasonable selling price for it if I sold it as is? Iḿ wanting to turn it into a ¨one-off¨ custom demon of a bike and make it look really appealing to the eye but then also make it so its still stupid fast when you need it to be. So here is my thought : I can maybe get $5,500 out of it AT THE MOST if I leave it bone stock and AS IS ( I would get it painted and new fairings, etc.) But what would be the best option for me selling it as bone stock for a few grand or fixing it up and making it a one off beast and get maybe a few thousand more?

If I make it a ¨one-off¨Busa, Iḿ thinking of having my local motorcycle shop fabricate a gsx1000 tail mod and an extended rear swingarm ( possibly single arm)

Things Iḿ debating :

Engine Rebuild? - it currently has 46788 miles on it- runs like a peach- Should I put a new racecut transmission in, new pistons and connecting rods, valves, springs, clutch, 03' starter conversion for more reliable starting, switch to voodoo full exhaust ( 4 into 1 or dual) , etc? Does this affect the resale value and if so how much?

Body work : New fairings, mesh, heat shield, race fairing clips and or new body hardware kit, custom painted maybe a dark red with black and or white accents ( any opinions on what really appeals to people).

Lighting : Switch to LEDś and have switchback lights in the front, and underglow on the bike

Electrical : Wrap wires with new cover , Install a tip over switch eliminator, key switch eliminator with custom way to start the bike, kickstand eliminator ( already have), put a TRE or something on it to make it unrestricted , put a speedohealer on to have the speedometer be more accurate with the bigger sprocket on the back if I put a fat tire rim ( maybe 240 for the better handling), I might consider putting on a 220 mph speedometer to make it look a little cooler :). It already has a PC on it and I think it was DynoTuned at some point and I might have it Dynotuned again to make it so the bike is a little more efficient after several changes.

Wheels/Tires/ Suspension :
Do any of you guys have any experience with a stock stretched busa with the standard rear wheel or if the 240 kit makes it better for handling when going to the track or cruisin around in town for the fun of it? Maybe air ride for an additional add on or maybe a more comfortable rear shock ( any opinions)? Does anyone have any used 240 rims that they might be willing to part with or should I stretch it out and use the stock rear rim? Maybe I should switch it out with like zx 14R or yamaha R1/6 wheels? I may replace things like lines, rear sets, clutch and brake levers etc.

I know this is a lot but, how much are custom Hayabusas going for these days? What would be the best option for me in this? Should I sell it as is and maybe stretch it out put new tires on it and new fairings paint, etc.? Or should I go custom and get a little more maybe. I just need help at this point. Iḿ open to any suggestions and ideas. I am 16, so its my first motorcycle I´ve ever bought, so I would like to get a little more money for it than I put into it, but thats just me. Would selling this on ebay get more money out of it or should I take it to an auction ?Any help is appreciated and I thank you all for taking time out of your day to help me. Have a good day!

Honestly, a running crashed 01 with almost 50k on the clocks is worth about 2k depending on how badly damaged the bodywork it is. If it's got engine issues even less.
A pristine low mileage 01 is maybe worth 3 or 4. Look at the classifieds here and you'll see modified 02+ gen 1 bikes struggling to get 5k, and unfortunately 01 is the least desirable of all the years. 99/00 have the advantage of being unlimited, 02-07 have different electronics and a few upgrades from Suzuki. 08+ are gen 2.

The question of what you should do is entirely up to you, but you never get back out of it what you put in, definitely not more. Never.
Build it for yourself to enjoy, then take the loss when you sell it.

For some perspective, I bought a super clean 2005 with 20K kms (12K miles) on it in June for $4500 Canadian. So like $49.95 USD.

:welcome: to the Org dude. First off I would say...cut back on the caffeine.
You are all over the map.Sell/don't sell. All yer mod idea's are great an' all,but I would start with a better bike. Sell what ya got, take a hit if you have to...
The next Busa you buy could have tons of what you are looking for,for almost free. Meaning find a Busa all modded out and let that owner take the hit on lost "Mod-Money." If these idea's of yours are reality, and not dreams, and you have untold amounts of cash, then you are good to go with whatever you want.
Get something more modern,Gen II atleast and do some better research as far as the elimination of all those switches, adding a TRE...getting a 240 tire on a longer arm...for better handling.

We have been telling guys for years...try and pick one thing to turn your bike into. You want a drag bike, build that. Twisties bike, build that, touring, etc. Pouring all yer money into an '01 ? IDK.
To each his own thou.
Rubb.

As was said a few times, great you have the passion to play with the bike...at 16 yrs old is insurance for this bike not out of this world for you??

You might find this to be a big money dump as these bikes don't hold their value and heavily modded bikes even less so.

sorry dears

some almost philosophical thoughts of the old man from across the pond.

16, no experience at all with bikes and starting with a busa?
damn to me that sounds as a kind of a suicide try,
as if the same youngster, without any experience, try to drive a formula 1 race car or to win the "500´s" or so.
and how stupid must the legal guardians be to allow such insane things.

as i know man takes some times to learn over a couple of years including some (up to a lot) of accidents.
and only then when calmed down, the man can ride such a high powered (and sometimes deathifying) kind of motoriced vehicle.
such a high powered vehicle is only a choice for those who never more are steered by his "little man" and "bollogs".

This. I was going to say all this, but Mr. Brown said it better. Bike isn't worth much, and if you start adding crap to it, you will end up lessening the pool of buyers even more.
