Vance Hines with stock cans?

I'm looking to upgrade my exhaust and want to use the VH header with Yosh R77 duals. Don't have a whole lot of cash to drop down at once so I want to buy the header first and the cans down the road. Anyone run the VH header with the stock cans for a while? Any increase in perf?, Sound good?, do they hold up?

I think that would be a very cool dyno experimint, as I am of the opinion that the head pipe, and not the mufflers, are the greatest restriction.
Let us know please. I say go for it.

I vote go with slip-ons first (weight reduction, looks, sound, some power gains). Then V&H headers later on for MORE power gains and MORE weight reduction. I might be a bit biased because this is exactly the route I took :)

You might want to do the slipons first simply because R77's are available now and the V&H header is out of stock everywhere and word from the grapevine (Thanx goldenchild!) is they don't intend to make another run of them for some months.

The V&H header will get rid of the catalytic convertor, which puts off way too much heat(it cooked my feet). It'll improve exhaust flow with stock mufflers and you'll probably gain a couple hp(not that you'll notice that).
The mufflers also will give you a hp or 2(again, you'll never feel it). Combined you'll get roughly around 10hp and 5 ft lbs of torque with a good dyno tune(ballpark numbers, every bike, dyno and tuner are different).
Slipons themselves are a noticeable handling improvement though if you like curves. Going from mufflers that weigh around 17 lbs each to two or 3 lbs is a big deal. You can really feel the weight gone when flicking the bike side to side.
Search for the stock muffler mod. You can cut and gut the stockers down to around a 3rd of their original weight. It's free, and does a nice job until you can afford what you like.
I cut mine down and gutted my convertor until I could afford a full system.:beerchug:

You def gain some power with an aftermarket header, but its not so much that the stocker doesn't flow well, suzuki just designed the stock header to give a better spread of power....a compromise of more down low with good peak power, vs an aftermarket which usually takes some low away to give you great peak power. And straight through aftermarket mufflers flow lots better than the multi-chambered flow killing stockers. On an average full aftermarket system you gain power from BOTH the header and freer-flowing straight through muffler, or mufflers if you go dual. Like sixpack said you won't get a big gain with just the V&H header and stock cans, you'll prolly notice a little more power upstairs, but a little less low down. I'd go with the R77 cans first as well, then the headers. You will feel a little more power with just the yoshi's, and a nice handling diff, and when you get the header stick it on as well and you should get around 10 or so ponies. The weight reduction between the stock heavy azz header and V&H will be noticeable as well as the lighter yoshi cans
