You shouldn't have a problem being 5'4". I would suggest the easiest thing to do is have your seat trimmed a bit. You can get about 3/4 of an inch pretty easily. I actually have a seat that has been trimmed. I bought it for training purposes and it works well for short people to learn to ride on. After the learning curve is to the safe point, I take it off and put them on a regular seat.

You can also lower the front and rear mechanically but that is a pain in the ass as well as costly.

Get Reaper Risers(30.00) to lower the front 1" and 1 1/2" lowering links for the rear (30.00) , for 60.00 the bike will LOOK better and you will FEEL better on bike . easy to install .
You could also add a Tobin Seat (130.00 or so) and will get your feet 1/2" closer to the ground .

+1  I've got MPS links with mine dropped in the back 1 1/2 now    while its more comfortable, I'm going back to stock I liked the way it handled more(I am 5-11 though)  but I didn't tighten up the rear spring either which prolly would help(little soft right now)  do a search on lowering in the modification section you find some stuff on how much to tighten or hell for that matter just PM  Jinkster  he'll be able to tell you
