VIN problems

Hey guys I keep trying to look up a VIN # on Carfax and it keeps telling me the number is incorrect. When I look it up on NICB I get the "has not been identified as a vehicle listed in the VINCheckSM Theft Records". Am I doing something wrong here or do I just have a bad VIN I'm trying to run?

Just means they don't have a record of it. However, I had a car I knew had been wrecked, but it showed clean on carfax.

Same with my truck. Been wrecked but when the dealer showed me the carfax > said no accidents or anything.

Carfax only works if it's reported to their d-base...it's not the bible on good/bad vehicles.

So do I just need to hit the DMV to find out what I need to know or can I trust that if the NICB didn't find anything there's nothing wrong?

Are you worried about it being stolen or just wrecked?


I would run it through the DMV just to double check everything.
