Biker clocked going 170 mph on upstate NY highway

RAVENA, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a 25-year-old upstate New York man has been arrested after troopers clocked him driving his motorcycle at 170 mph on the Thruway.

State police say a trooper first observed the motorcyclist going 166 mph Wednesday afternoon in the southbound lanes of Interstate 87 just south of Albany. The trooper pursued the biker and was able to get the Suzuki motorcycle's license plate number and a description of the rider when he slowed down in traffic.

But the man sped off again, and other troopers clocked him going as fast as 170 mph. Troopers eventually stopped him in New Paltz.

Police charged Nikkolaus McCarthy of Charlton with fleeing police, reckless driving, speeding and operating a motorcycle without a license.

He was being held in jail on $20,000 bail. It couldn't immediately be determined if he had a lawyer.

I was thinking the same thing, that it didn't say what kind of bike but it probably wasn't a Busa.

His goose was cooked as soon at he let them get close enough to get his license plate number.

The article I read about this yesterday had the guy telling the cops that his bike could do more than 190 when he was told they clocked him at 177. Of course I can't find that article now....

Sounds like he was doing this around traffic in a sustained manner, if so, not to smart. Hope he learns a lesson. I wonder if the cop knocked 10 mph off on th actual ticket??????
