Went to the track again..

Well I have been going to the track on Friday nights ( getting addicted ) and have been running around 10.4 area....baby launches and short shifting first. I decided to try going to a 17 ( gen II ) and managed to get a 10.1 last night. I let a friend who can race take it and he got a 9.8 his first pass ever on my bike. His second pass was the same 9.8 with some wheelie issues ( stock wheelbase and height ). He thinks I should put the stock 18 back on to help the wheelie issue. I went to the 17 because I short shift first and wanted some more pull in second ( does this make sense). He tells me I need to use first gear more and it will get me in the 9's with stock gearing.... says I have to drag my clutch at wot. I am still having fun either way just would like to get under 10...any advice? Thanks, Dozer.

Try taking off at 4500 rpms and try slipping the clutch? Do you have a strap on the bike, clutch mod? Seat time the key..

What do your slips look like?

60', 330', MPH, etc. and what are you shifting at?

Ok...my best so far is
R/T .007
60' 1.859
1/8 6.767
mph 116.97
1000 8.609
1/4 10.128
mph 144.64

I don't launch hard... just about 2,500 to 3k and just barely drag the clutch. I wheelie when I roll the throttle so I don't go wot until second. My bike is set up for street riding...stock height, no strap, no burnouts. I weigh a little over 180 in shorts...

My second best
R/T.105
60' 1.936
330 4.742
1/8 6.900
mph 115.46
1000 8.739
1/4 10.298
mph 145.86

My friend rode my bike and his first pass was ( a little lighter then me )
R/T -.111
60' 1.686
330 4.412
1/8 6.540
mph 117.54
1000 8.347
1/4 9.876
mph 148.20

I know my main issue is the launching..

The key to getting in the 9's is getting wide open throttle by the 60' beam. If you can get that down your times will drop pretty easy. You are loosing it all in the start. Also try shifting around 11,500 indicated on the tach to get your MPH up.

If you get tired of fighting wheelies, you can lower it 2" and get mid-9's pretty easy. It just takes practice, you'll get it... :beerchug:
