I'm considering renting a bike while in California in the near future.

Anybody know of these folks, "WeRentMotorcycles.com" in California? If so, any idea if it's a good or bad idea to do business with them?

Any other businesses that might be worth a look?

Thanks!

ping Scar, he had something lined up for the stampede for rentals, think they were based in socal but dunno... also pashant has some lines on them I think

Yeah, the deposits are high, but I'm not planning on actually spending that deposit money. :please:

Yeah....I'm sure he requires it for insurance purposes. I guess if your going to use a race track video as an example of what a bike can do. I'd charge a $3,000 deposit too! I mean since any Joe Schmo could watch that video and go rent the bike and think "hey I can do that"

Anyways....on the Busa description page he references Pashnit.
"The 2008 Hayabusa has 15% more power than previous models. What better bike to ride the routes on the website www.pashnit.com?."

You may want to give Tim a call there and ask him if he has any experience w/ these guys. If not...I'm sure he point you in the right direction.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I've rented bikes from them before - great service - they will deliver bike to your hotel - call Jack Reynolds 888-849-4098 - besides Busa he has the BMW K's -

I actually had reserved a bike (K1300S) for the Stampede with them but had to back out; they were even going to deliver it for me. Very easy to work with. P.S. Pashnit used to ship with a $50 gift certificate to them (I have 2 of them on my desk now)!

Update - Rented a Tiger from Dubbelju.com

Well, I can whole-heartedly recommend Dubbelju Motorcycle Rentals (Dubbelju is pronounced like the letter "W"). After contacting several rental businesses in the bay area on the same day as I intended to rent, Dubbleju had a good selection of bikes, was located just off the Bay Bridge in San Francisco and, most importantly, provided AWESOME customer service and a bike that we in tip top shape and ready to go!

I decided on the Triumph Tiger, partially on the recommendation of James of Dubbleju, and it was a great bike for the 120 or so miles that I managed to squeeze in while visiting. The bike was very UJM in ergos and they included a hard top case and saddlebags that came in very handy. The Tiger is a 3 cylinder, although it sounds almost electric, and it had plenty of power for my needs. More importantly, it was more than nimble and offered excellent ergos for my passenger. T/he suspension was a bit /squishy/soft for two up but was great for solo riding. All in all, a good all around bike.

Prices ain't cheap. List price for the rental was $169/day and net price worked out to $185 (using my own insurance). Lowest list price anywhere that I saw was about $145 for lower end bikes up to about $200/day for premium rides. Oh, and they all want a credit card for a $2500 deposit for the "just in case" potential of riding.

If ya ever need a rental in the Bay area, be sure to check out Dubbleju, ask for James or Cheri and you'll be in good hands!

Best of luck!

PS:

I did contact MotorcycleRentals.com and spoke with their man Jack. He was very helpful and I rec'd many recommendations from various riders, in fact he wound up recommending Dubbelju.com, but he simply couldn't make money by dropping a one day rental to the bay area from his SoCal location.

The only other option that really looked good was Thunder Road Motorsports/US Motorcycle Rentals but their FJR was rented out.

I also contacted SportBikeRental.com just to be sure that they were truly "CLOSED for the SEASON" (in California?!?!?!?) as of 9/1/09...?!?!?!?!? They confirmed yet again, saying that the market didn't support the business in the area. Of course, the several other rental businesses kept telling me that they were heavily booked and that right now is a very busy time of year for them. I think SportBikeRental.com might be in some kind of financial trouble.

sportbikerental.com used to rent out of the Renegade Cycles store in Vallejo. It closed and they went with it. I'm thinking they are having financial hardships as well.
