What a day....

We'll the day started off good. I was supposed to go riding with some friends up to the VA mountains so I got up at 5:00 AM this morning to do some much needed maintence (change oil & coolant) before the long trip. While changing the oil I realized just how bad of shape the front tire was in so once the local shop opened up this morning I had a new tire put on. All this time I'm rushing around, because we're supposed to be leaving at 10:00 AM. I rush back, finish the oil change with the new filter, replace coolant, and put front wheel back on. I rush outside to give the bike a quick wash and just as I finish my friend calls me and says something came up and he can't go. We'll crap! I decide to go for a ride by myself then, so I'm approx 50-60 miles from home and all the sudden the oil light comes on? :banghead: I kill the engine and coast off the road. When I come to a stop I look down and oil is just pouring out of the bottom of the motor!!!! My heart drops and I'm thinking I just blew the freakin motor! I get underneath and realize the oil is running out of the oil hole where the BOLT NORMALLY GOES! OH CRAP, I FORGOT TO TIGHTEN THE BOLT! I was in such a hurry that I just put it on finger tight and was going to go back and tighten it, but forgot! After standing on the side of the ride for about an hour waiting for my dad to come pick me and the bike up, I finally get it home. Oh well, could have been worse I guess. If I hadn't see the oil light on it would have blew up for sure, I just hope I didn't do any damage to the motor. Here's a good :rulez: NEVER get in a hurry during maintence on your bike, it can be expensive. I feel like such a dork! :banghead: Just thought I'd share.

Oh man; glad you were able to stop the engine before any damage was done, and glad the oil did'nt affect the tires!!!

I tried, but I was unable to find it. I'm sure Suzuki will want $10 or $12 for a $2 bolt, but I have no choice since I couldn't locate one at Lowes or my local autopart stores.

$6 bucks or less for a plug and washer :beerchug:

10 or 12 is nothin compared to what it coulda been. glad to hear it didnt smear your back tire. that coulda ended up bad. we all make dumb mistakes...we all learn and move on

You just learned a lesson I was taught years ago.....never put off something till right before the big trip, it just leads to rushing, stress, damage and possibly worse. I ALWAYS get my maintainence done and bike ready to go days before a big trip. When trip day comes I put the key in, start it up and go :beerchug: Also don't leave things to tighten till later...do it while you're on it. Finish tightening one thing up before you move on to the next...it may seem abit slower, but I've seen terrible things happen from forgotten bolts :banghead:
