What Brought You To Your 'Busa

Ok I don't have a bike but i'm very interested in the Hayabusa. I like the looks and the fact it's the fastest production motorcycle made. Now don't think when I get one i'm gonna be tearing up the streets. I will be scared sh1tless most likley. I want to know what brought you people to your 'Busas. How did you decide on the bike? What made you get one? And has anyone been dissapointed after they got theirs? Thanks!

And just to throw it out there I have a 1990 240sx with the redtop SR20DET. If anyone else has a Nissan or Infinity check out http://www.nicoclub.com/ it's Nissan Infinity Car Owners.

I have always loved the look of the busa.
When I went to the dealer I went to look at an M109. I still had the speed itch(former bike was an 88 zx-10.)

I threw my leg over the busa and the salesmen made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I'm not one to impulse buy, but I knew I was making the right decision.

I started riding in 99 after taking the MSF class just for fun. HOOKED. I never figured I'd get a Busa, but admired it's top speed potential. After going from a 650 cruiser to a modded Ninja 1000, it was time for something even faster. The Busa was the only one faster and seemed affordable at that time. Now I've gone as fast as *I* can on land. Color me satisfied

First of all if you already know that you're going to scare yourself sh1tless then DON'T GET A BUSA!! If you're going to get scared on a bike PERIOD don't get a bike. Just because the busa is the baddest thing on the street doesn't mean you have to get it.... you have to EARN it. Good on you for making the point of not going out and tearing up the streets though...

BUT...

I was attracted to the busa since the day I saw it and I've always wanted one. It is an incredibly SEXY machine. When you see a GSXR or a CBR coming down the road (just an example people!) you think, "oh a bike." THEN when you see the busa rolling down the street you follow it with your eyes until you can't see it in your rearview mirrors anymore. Another factor for me was I hardly saw any females on busa's. I could only imagine the feeling of domination of owning the biggest, baddest thing on two wheels. And then it became reality and I will never go back....

It belonged to my Ex-Fiance's dad. He traded it in on a POS harley Sturgis and a Honda Metro scooter. What an AZZ Hat. I went to the shop to get tires on my Hardley 2 months later for a trip I was taking. Her and I had broke up a month earlier and the bike was still there. When I saw it sitting there I just new I had to buy it. That bike was my 12 year old daughters favorite to ride on. So I bought and have not looked back. F her and him is the way I look at it. I love this bike so much, I never ride my Hardley Dangerous any more, unless my dad comes to go riding with us boys.

Oh I don't know ? You think about it !

It was time for a new bike and I'd wanted a sport bike for a long time but always felt somewhat like a (rather skinny) circus bear on them. Went once again to look at liter bikes and while at the stealership, in the process of looking at everything I sat on a Hayabusa. It felt like I'd always wished a sport bike to feel, comfortable. I could actually tuck on it without a bunch of overlapped elbows and knees, my heels weren't almost touching the back of my legs, and my back was straight, no hunchback arch. The seat felt big and padded, not like a 2x6. The blue was beautiful and the deal on the leftover 07 was so good that I bought it and rode away before they could change their minds.
Been 8 months and 4100 miles, no regrets.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

And when I mentioned I would be scared of it, was kinda my way of saying I will be babying it for quite a long time before goin fast. I was talking with this guy who has one, he said it did 7 sec 1/4 mile but I don't know if I believe him. But anyways he said if you want a bike don't learn on a small slower bike, get the one you want and learn as you go. I was thinking of learning on something else, what do you guys and girls think?

Suggest taking the riders course first then get yourself something cheap & naked about the weight of the Busa. You will probably drop it a few times the first year of riding & replacing Busa body panels gets expensive. If you can make it 10K miles without dropping or crashing your ride you may be ready to move up. Besides learning to ride you will learn about bike maintenance. If you can score something to play with in the dirt it will add to you skills & it don't hurt so much when you fall off.

No matter what any of us here suggest your going to do what you want anyway. If you use your head for something besides a hat rack you should be around for awhile. Lord willing & the creek don't rise.

I couldn't have said it better myself!

I wanted a bike I could sport tour on that rips.  Full fairing, major hp and much less than 600 lbs.  Didn't need racetrack handling, but didn't want FJR or ST handling, either.

The 'busa is the only bike that fits the bill.  I have Buell pegs and 1" bar risers with a double bubble screen, and it ain't a gold wing but it is better than the oem set-up, and didn't noticeably affect performance.  I never top it out, anyway.

Luggage locker seat pack and tank bag is enough to pack solo for a week if I pack conservatively.  This lets me abandon my soft saddlebags, which I used for years, but disliked.

I'm slowly adding all the hi-perf suspension and bolt on motor parts I've always added to my big fours.

The bike rocks.  I love my ZRX, and won't give it away, but it is for sale.

Get what you want. If it's a busa, get it. If it's not, get something else. Bottom line, get what you want or you won't be happy one it. As for what attracted me to the busa. . . Everytime I use to see one I drooled.

Then the 06 limited came out. White and silver. First time I had ever seen a bike that was mostly white, and it was HOT! So! Then I decided I wanted a bike. I was commuting 60 miles a day. I tried a couple liter bikes and 600's. Fun to ride, but the comfort level. . Not so much. Sat on a busa and was hooked. Comfortable, sexy, good fuel mileage, and I was able to find an 06 limited!

I started out with a GSXR-600 and loved it. Found the Busa for the first time in Biloxi (that's why I was asking Busa-Jules about hers). From that moment on I knew what I wanted. The look and power of it were just amazing. Then I researched what it was and decided I needed a little more saddle time. Four years later someone relieved me of my 600 and I figured it was just a sign... even if it wasn't it was a good enough excuse to go get the 08

i need to compensate.

Seriously, though. This is not a good choice for a first bike. You will end up getting yourself killed. Would you put a 16y.o. in a lambo as soon as they got thier license?

The only way that guy is doin 7's is with a very well done turbo/drag setup. As for his advice on getting what you want and learning on it, wellll..yes and no. I started on a harley 1200 sportster. Not a big bike power or size wise but intimidating enough for a first timer like me. Got spill guards on it which helped when i dropped it a few times at a stop like the noob I was. Thing is I took my time and got used to it and started honing the things I learned from the ADVANCED part of the motorcycle safety foundation course like emergency braking, countersteering, and getting on the gas hard (which at 50hp, wasn't a huge challenge). Slipping the clutch and keeping the feet on the pegs while crawling through a turn my father, a former rider, talked me through in our own driveway and street.....that was after we recharged the battery since I stalled the bike for 15 minutes straight learning to slip the clutch.

Truth is while you can baby a busa and eventually learn on it. You won't learn as quick or probably even as properly as you would on a bike with less power. While you do want to be respectful to the bike's acceleration, braking, and quick cornering ability, if your scared of it your gonna be scared to push things a bit more and more as you learn to acclerate, brake, corner harder etc. That said you truly cannot go wrong with any 600cc sportbikes made after 2002. I mean they do low 11's and high 10's with a good rider and 160mph is nothing to sneeze at. You can start on a busa if you want. Maybe strip the bodywork and put frame sliders on it which may help some if you dump it at a stop or low speed. Truthfully I'd start small.

For the record I rode that 50hp harley sportster for about a year (even through the winter) before I traded it for a 76hp Buell S1 lightning that was a Pile. I did manage 9000 miles on that bike in about half a year and did get fairly experienced in the dynamics of motorcycle handling. When I finally got tired of visits to the mechanic and traded that thing for a new '97 CBR 1100XX which had a bit over 130hp at the back wheel, it was a HUGE change. One that almost got me into a crash a few times despite having over a year and 9000+miles riding experience on 2 different motorcycles. I wish you all the best if you start on a monster like the busa.

I've owned many superbikes over the years from many different makers except for Suzuki. After reading literally tons of articles/reviews about the 'Busa, I decided to give it a go. Haven't looked back since...
