What happened to my transmission?

So everything works except 5th gear. When I give it any gas in 5th, she feels like I have no Cush drive rubbers and it feels like she is spinning then catching. Every other gear works fine. I know the transmission is hosed, but what part?

Is it safe to drive if I skip 5th? I drove it for about a half hour with zero issues. It never ends. lol. For the record I was not beating on it but I did have a couple missed shifts the other day.

Also only second gear was undercut. Why I have no idea.

I wouldn't risk riding it except to get home of get it to the shop if it's not to far away.

My plan was to ride the bike for the summer just no pulls while I get used to the bike. I’ll just skip right over 5th and go 4 to 6.

Figure I’ll find another transmission and send it out to be built. Then when it comes back I’ll find someone to help me. I really don’t know if I have it in me to fix it myself. I’ve lost that ability but who knows.

If it wasn’t for bad luck I wouldn’t have any.

I would do the same and not worry about it.
As for the transmission, it's really not a bad job, other than the engine has to come out, so it takes a while to do it.

I'd be worried about doing more damage to the transmission or whatever caused the damage to 5th gear possibly damaging other gears resulting in a more costly repair. I've always believed in getting stuff fixed right away on my cars or bikes so things don't get worse and so I don't get stranded on the side of the road.

I don't disagree with that line of thinking at all
(I respect it) but in terms of motorcycle transmissions, not so much.
A circlip probably broke or popped out and let the gear slide over 'walk' on the shaft.
All the gears need undercut .
A bent fork or damaged drum tracking would cause gears to hang, and not shift smoothly, which is not the case.
Simply skipping fifth gear allows the transmission to work as if there were no issues.
The odds of anything else happening to it are low, and not likely to be caused by the current condition.
The OP is going to fix it, is well aware of the problem, how to ride accordingly(like stolen, lmao), and wants to ride it in the meantime.
Under those circumstances, there shouldn't be a problem.
To the contrary, I have seen many a thrashed bike, and trailer queen's, and you would be suprised how random a gear failure can be...yet the rest of the transmission hold on regardless.
If the engine was knocking, yes, take it apart asap...while it's still intact and repairable, lol.
Slipping transmission gear? Nah...you can limp on that for a long time

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Exactly my line of thinking.

Yes. It goes into 5th. Then into 6th. No issues. I read about 5th causing some issues. Figures.
That sucks, you should just pull it and send it out to be all undercut. Make sure they are aware of the power your putting out.
5th missing is usually a ghost shift, it usually just hangs up and doesn't engage. Try adjusting the shifter lever to move it a bit father in

I’ll gladly take recommendations on who to send it to?
