What is this device?

Hey all, I bought my busa back in Feb from a dealer. I am the 2nd owner. After having it die on me on the interstate(it started itself right back with me in gear) I decided to do a complete teardown and tune.

After removing the fairings and seat, I found this device hidden between the battery and the fairing. I have NO clue wth this thing is.

Anyone ever seen one?

Also anyone know why my bike would suddenly just die and restart going down the interstate? The battery is 100% good. The only mods are a PC2 and whatever this device is.

That looks like an older version of a speedo healer. Not sure that it would make your bike stall while riding down the highway though?? If it's faulty it would mess with your gauges, I've seen that happen from a bad speedo healer. The gauges would go haywire or not work @ all.

You said that you had a Power Commander2? That's a pretty old outdated version.... I have heard from several people and read a few PC trouble shooting forums that them older power commanders tend 2 act up and cut off their bikes while running if they happened 2 get caught in a rain storm and the PC got wet or hit a bad pot hole and jarred their bike.

I'm not a expert by no means but I'd be willing 2 bet it's that PC2 before a speedo healer that's making your bike act up

yea, i took your guess 1busa, it's a 1st gen speedo healer. I'm also going to take the power commander off.

Do you think taking the PC off will mess with anything? I got a 4-2-1 two brothers exhaust and a k&n filter. Haven't had a chance to check out what else the bike may have done to it. this is the 1st time I have taken it apart.

The bike will still run w/o the PC2. I would do like you said and just give your bike a thorough once over. Check all the wires etc. I know that the early gen busa's had an issue with the stator/ rectifier. Take a look @ those as well look at the connectors and see if anything looks burnt/melted.

From what you said it sounded similar to a guy who had an issue with a PC that got moisture. If your bike runs and doesn't cut off again with the PC I would just look in2 getting a newer version PC5. They have pre made tunes on the website you can download with variations based on pipe and air filter. That would suffice or @ least till you could take it somewhere and get it tuned and dyno'd properly
