What is this?

Hi everyone...

I bought this bike a few weeks ago. I was messing around for the first time with the engine and such. I lift the gas tank. Low and behold under the air box there is a piece of plastic sticking out of something. I look at the back of the air box and there is a spot where it look like a hose should go. I assume there should be a hose going from one to the other. I need to know:

1 What is this with a piece of plastic sticking out of it

2 What trouble is it causing. (The bike cranks up a little rough, but I don't know if that is it)

Here is the pick...HELP!!!

Again...this is below the air box right in the middle of the chasis...

is that supposed to be a picture of the problem? (you are going to need a lot better shot)

It's tough to tell from your pic. Is it possible to upload a larger one?

My guess is the crankcase breather hose? It attaches to the back, middle of the airbox and down to the top of the engine.

If that's what you're missing, it shouldn't cause any harm not having it there. It's not ideal, but shouldn't cause issues.

I can't tell from your picture but there is a water drain on there that "looks" like it should have a hose on it.

+1 Hard to tell from this pic.
I'm thinking that the hose for the pair valve may have been disconnected in an unorthodox manner. This is done to bikes with after market pipes to eliminate popping on decell. If thats what it is there are better ways to accomplish this. Look up marble mod or just hook the hose back up to the air box.

Hi ..thanks for the quick response. I am going to take a pic with a camera..that one was for my cell. Give me about 10 mins. But to answer Bike Dude..the bike came with HMF single side exhaust on it. But still..a piece of plastic stick out looks whack! Be back in 10...

Omslaw...I think that's what my manual say...but it was not a clear pic...

Crankcase breather goes to the bottom of airbox. Take that plastic out and look almost directly above it and you will see where it goes. It looks like the hose is missing so you may have to buy one.

So I need to put another hose on there right? What affect would it have on the engine?

Yep, see my post above, breather hose, should attach to the back, middle of the airbox (on the bottom).
