What sprocket for 1/8th mile?

Hey guys I was wondering if the front 14t would be ok for a stock 2006 alone or should I go with a 42t in the rear as well for 1/8th mile racing? Right now I am on the limiter in second gear going through the traps in second gear (6.75 @ 112). If I shift into third I will only trap 106 evverytime somehow. Any suggestions?

If anyone makes a 14 tooth front that will fit, I'd stay away from it.

I run a 16/42 and 6.46-6.54 @ 113mph. This puts me at about 9650rpm in 3rd. I wouldn't think you want more than two shifts in the 1/8. If I was going to run the 1/8 with my bike, I'd start with a 16/43. I was at 235lbs on these runs.

17t is stock for the front. When you put smaller sprocket on the front you reduce the amount of chain the sprocket applies the HP to. Excessive chain wear and or failure will occur with a 14t front, i personally run 17/45 to have the most sprocket/chain contact as possible. It also puts me thru the traps at the top of third in the 1/8th (run mid 5.9x's). If you do get that 14t front please consider a good chain, i had good luck with a tsubaki non-oring drag chain and my current ZZZ chain.

I'm running 6.8xx @ 115mph and kicking it into 3rd every time. Still running stock gearing for the time being. I'm thinking about dropping to a 16T up front as opposed to a 42/43T in the rear due to the fact that the 16T will give me a bit more wheelbase.

There are tons of guys here running with a 16T up front. But most agree one should go up in the rear than to go any lower than that up front.

Sorry guys, I was thinking that the stocker was a 15t. I only intended to go down -1 up front. I was just wondering should I change the rear also for 1/8th mile racing? So, I am looking for -1 up front and +1 or 2 in the rear? Sorry about the confusion, I am still a Newbie, lol.

16t front is fine and you won't have to get a new chain. if you chain is broken it well you can put a 42t on the back and maybe a 43t depending on how far you have stretched out the chain. A 16/42 would put you the same as a 17/45.

Gearing will make the bike wake up and want to go...

A 16/42 or 43 will fit a stock length chain (even a new one) without any problem. A 17/42 will also, not 100% sure about a 17/43.

i just put a 16/45 on.. will let u know how i do, will be going to the track on wednesday. i had been runing 16/42. 1/8th mile 6.46 - 6.50. (i am sitting at 65 inch.)

I run a 16/44 and turn 6.3XX at 114/115.

Keeping the 42 never now when i might have to change .. only have about 500 miles on the sprocket.

A lot of it depends on your weight. I run 16-43, as I am 275 in gear. My best ET is a 6.25 in the 1/8th, but normally average 6.40's.

This is stock pipes, stock arm and lowered and strapped.

If you are of average weight, just go with the 16 in front to start...

Thanks, I already changed sprockets and extended the bike 6.5"... I ran last night and only got a 6.66 in the 1/8th at 111mph and 10.27 in the 1/4 at 135. My 60ft still sucks. I got a 1.74 launching at 5000 rpm (shinko, strap, extended, lowered, 16/42). I ran strapped and lowered last time at this track first pass ever and went 10.40 at the same speed, stock sprocket, stock arm stock tire launching at 3500! I added the extensions, sprockets, and shinko and did not drop hardly any et. My wife is getting ready to take my credit card away for waisting all of our money, lol. She asked me last night " Why did the bike only go from a 10.40 to a 10.27 after spending all that money"? I told her that the rider sucks.......Any suggestions? Why did the mph not change even though I changed sprockets? I did notice that the 1/8th mile mph was 106 last time with stock componets and 111 mph this time yet they still were the same in the 1/4 at 135? Thanks guys

I have a brand new 43t Steel JT sprocket I will sell for $30 TYD. I ordered it thinking I had a 42 on the rear and forgot that it was a 43.

The biggest thing to making these bikes run fast is your launch. You need to be out on the clutch completely and wide open by the 60' mark if you want to be going fast.

If you are only going 1.74 with extentions, then you are not riding nearly hard enough.... I avg high 1.60 sixty footers and my bike is the stock length. Then again, the guy I ride with goes mid 1.50's!

It sounds like you are revving the bike to 5k and then just letting out/dumping the clutch?? I try to load the clutch as I accelerate, letting it out as I twist the throttle wide open quickly. A good launch will have you pinned at the 60' and not bog at all when the clutch is all the way out.

BTW, where is Ft campbell at??? I think you are close to me, if I am not mistaken.

Yep, I am definitely dumping it then. I am going to stay with the 42t for now. Thanks for the offer though. Did you do the clutch mod? I still have the stocker in place. You guys are great riders! I have only seen one local guy get close to the times that you all are posting.....he hangs out on here though, lol. Ft. Campbell is in KY, about 45 min from Nashville Tn. Thanks!!!!!

I'll take it for 30 if it's brand new.
