Those do not look like factory bars to me. But I have never messed with the modified grips that you removed . Will need others to chime in but they look too long , you might need to get a set of used factory clip on's. I bet there is a member here that has a set.

Factory bars are threaded, not hollow. You will have to pull the throttle tube out of the old grips (or do the R1 mod).

So would you guys say these *are* the factory bars? A set of OEM handle bars are ~130.00 shipped...would rather not spend the money.

Ill hop on Amazon and see if I get score a set of factory grips/ends. Not sure what the best course of action would be.

Look OEM to me. Put the grips on without glue an see how they fit. As far as your bar ends go, just go to the hardware store and get the bolt you need.

Those custom grips didnt have a removable throttle tube, just one solid, heavy piece. The set of suzuki grips that I have do have a throttle tube, so Im good there.

I went to home depot to find bolts that would replace the bolts that came with the bar ends, but they dont have them. Might be a custom size.

This is driving me insane. Hoping its a simple fix. Any other suggestions/pointers are welcomed. Thanks for the replies folks.

The grips fit perfectly, the only issue is the ends at this point.

Question - when putting the grips on the bars, should the grips outer edge line up with the end of the handle bars?

I ask because the ends came with a large-ish spacer which seems like the grip should slide over.

Yes, the outer edge of the grip is even with the end of the bar. On the throttle side you will not have many options, as the grip locks in the switch housing and the switch housing locks in the hole in the bar.

Got it all put together minus the bar ends. The grips fit fine, no issues at all. I actually found a set of stock clip-ons on Ebay for 35 bucks. Comes with the bars, grips, and bar ends so I went for it.

On another note - question regarding how the handle bars connect to the triple tree. On the right side of mine, there are 2 hex bolts that screw into the tree where the bar connects. They presumable act as a 'clamp' where the tree surrounds the handle bar. So on mine, the bolt that is closest to the throttle won't go in all the way (it was a PITA to get it out). Turns out instead of clamping down to close the tree around the handle bar, this bolt was tightened INTO the handle bar:

I gotta ask - is THIS normal? I was able to secure the bar to the tree using only one bolt, but I really hate cutting corners/putting band-aids on issues. I think the tree is after market, but I don't know for sure. You can see it in one of the photos in an earlier post. Maybe that thing is junk/bent/something? Thank for all the support so far, this site is awesome!

That's the way it's supposed to be. After looking over the pics again I am 99.9% sure you have the stock bars on there now. I understand you wanting to make sure everything is correct, but don't over think things either. Everything looks fine to me, I wouldnt worry about buying anything unless you just don't like the chrome and want to go back to stock black.

yes those are stock, yes that is exactly how they fit. As for bolts in the end go to stealership and get them, make them test fit. My guess, someone stripped or forced something else in there.

Man that seems like a poor design to have the bolts chop up the handle bar like that, but oh well, it is what it is.

I've got everything assembled, went for a ride, and it feels fine.

Just waiting for the factory ends to get here next week to finish it completely. Thank you to everyone for the guidance!

With the stock top clamp you need to completely remove one of the pinch bolts for the bar to be removed from the clamp. The aftermarket clamp that you have should be the same.
