Anyone know what year busas came with the aluminum subframe? Ive searched and can't find anything stating it. Is there any visible difference? Im looking at one thats for sale for real cheap and its painted black, says its off a 99 busa.

DME builds a new alu subframe. You can also pickup used ones allover the place. Just realize that you don't want to ever put a passenger on the back with the Alu subframe.

With the stock exhaust, the aluminum subframe was safe...with a 4-1 exhaust it did not have enough support.

Stock steel is about 10.1lbs stock Alu is about 4.5lbs and you can widdle it down easily enough to about 3.1lbs

lets see, over 70,000 miles and hindle hi mount = not problem with aluminum sub-frame so far. Half of that mileage is with a chick on the back.

I guess I should have clarified further. Since this board has alot of fatties and tallies (myself included, so I can poke fun ) I wouldn't recommend the alu subframe if they ride with somone equally in dimension on the back. In the event that you're a fly weight and your passenger is as well then you might be ok. I would still check the frame every so often.

I can mount an alu sub to a stationary mount and it'll flex quite a bit with just my feeble arm strength pulling down on it. I hope that helps clarify things.

pretty sure the lawsuit that perpetuated the steel sub frame issue was due to an owner that installed Corbin beetle bags and rode deuce up at high speeds, beetle bags grab a lot of air and essentially applied extra sheer on the sub frame, Germany I think?

Sub-frame braces are a low cost fix that will prevent any mishaps with a passenger on a 1999-00 Busa.
