Actually Painless, your forgetting that in the motorcycle world (Fluids) weigh much more than in the rest of the world.
Seriously, every bike manufacterer sorta fudges their dry weights for braggin rights or cool points. Kawasaki and Suzuki are notorious for this, gasoline weighs much more on a Kawasaki or a Suzuki.
I think Honda is one of the few where their gas and other fluids weigh about what they should. Basically what I am saying is that the manufacterers will give the press a number for dry weights, but then when fueled and on the road suddenly the weights don't add up. Six gallons of gas, plus a gallan of coolent, plus a few ounces of brake fluid, and 4 litres of oil should weigh the same across the board right? Well when alot of bikes are weighed by the press there is frequently a sizable discrepancy. Suddenly that "New Lightweight Bike" is only a pound shy of last years bikes... Here's a couple of examples....
CBR1100XX ('97)WET 557 DRY 525 = 32lbs
CBR1100XX ('99) Wet 547 DRY 509 = 38lbs Man Claim 493.8 pounds He he... Fluids in Motorcycle world weigh 53 pounds?
GSX1300R Hayabusa ('99) WET-550 DRY515 =35lbs Manufacterer Dry Weight Claim--- 478 lbs FLUIDS WEIGH 72 LBS?
GSX1300R Hayabusa ('01) WET560 DRY525 =35lbs
ZX-10R ('04)WET 436 DRY 409 =27lbs MAN Claimed Dry weight- 374.9 pounds Suddenly Fluids weigh 61lbs...
CBR1000RR (04')WET 466 DRY 437 = 29lbs Manufacterer Claim-- 396 pounds Fluids weigh 70lbs in the new 1000RR.... So much for my "Honda Fudges Less Theory..."
So dry weights from the manufacterer are about useless really. I mean if you trust the Manufacterers then you really do believe the ZX10R is some 30 lbs lighter than the Honda CBR 1000RR.
----OH Damn Looks like ZX10R IS 30 or so LBS lighter...
