what is the main performance difference between an airshifter and a dynojet quickshifter. I got ready to put my mps airshifter on and its gonna require alot of modifications to get it to work so im thinking of just going to a quickshifter. I have a busa but the bike im putting the shifter on is a 1000rr

With an airshifter, you push a button or rely on a computer to do full throttle no clutch shifts. With a quick shifter, you actually shift as normal but without a clutch and without letting off the throttle, there is a sensor mounted on the shifter that interupts the ignition when you up-shift.

I could be wrong but think with the Quickshifter you put a little pressure on the shift lever then push the shift button .

More or less taking the slack/play out before hitting the button .

There's a new airshifter out and it works different in that it automatically detects the interupt time needed . No adjustments as far as tweeking interupt time . Does it for you by a small computer .

Can even be used on the carbed bikes .

Both quick shifter answers are correct.

The quickshifter actually interrupts the fuel injection to release the load on the transmission. It does not make the actual shift. An air shifter has to have something with it to so the same thing. It is usually referred to as a “kill boxâ€￾. Usually the method used with an air shifter is to ground the primary signal to the coils for a few milliseconds while the air cylinder makes the upshift.
The quickshift does not have any parts that make the shift for you. You supply the power by lifting the shift lever. The quickshifter provides the “killâ€￾ to momentarily remove the load to allow it to easily shift into the next gear without using the clutch.. Now there are two methods of installing the quickshifter. Method 1) install a pushbutton as mountainmotor indicated. While under acceleration you place pressure on the shift lever. Because the transmission is under load it will not shift. Now push the button and it interrupts the power and the shift occurs. Someone posted a video on the board of it inaction. Method 2) As nitrousjunkie indicated DynoJet makes a rod with a sensor that can sense the movement of the shifter eliminating the need for the pushbutton. The rod sensor will only allow shifting one way (upshifts) but you could use the button method with both up and downshifts after a bit of practice.

I hope to start my installation this weekend using a quick shifter, an airshifter, and an autoshift box together as a team for drag racing. We’ll see if I can make it work as it is a little different from the standard setup.

well i knew a quickshifter you have do shift your self but is it a big down grade from an air shifter. besides the fact i have to shift my self is there alot of other dis advantages. this mps shifter is gonna require alot of modifcations and i was thinking of an air shifter but i didnt want to go down in performance. basically is my time gooing to be alot slower jus bc i have a quickshifter and not an air shifter

If you get this harness from Schnitz, its a breeze to install.
