I looked down at my ID sticker on the frame. My bike was made 2/99. Does the date of manufacture have any relation why some bikes have problems and some don't?

Don't think that has any thing to do with it. But too much saki on a sunday night might explain some problems on Monday morning assemby lines in Japan. Mine is 4/00.
