When/Where to punch it?

For high speed runs, commit Hapo's advice to memory. But remember, you can punch it at slow speeds more often, with less fear of retaliation by the man, and with kinder consequences if you DO get caught.

First and second gear full throttle runs are equally exciting in a different way, and ask more skill of you.

Don't forget the corners; that's where the real rewards are. Your cruiser was a sofa. The Hayabusa is a Recaro.

A Recaro with a JATO pack on the back.

I'm in San Diego. Have been doing a bit of "R + D" work with my Busa, mostly at Carlsbad Raceway ( 1/4 mi.). Will be doing "break in", and testing on ZX-12, in the next month, or two. Busa will be getting turbo, in the next couple of months. ZX-12 will just have Muzzy pipe, after I get some pure stock 1/4 mi runs, after 1000 mile break in. Will run at 500 mile interval, shifting only 8 ~ 9000 rpm, for preliminary eval............... ..For more info on Carlsbad, and San Diego riders, e-mail: chrisdolan@webtv.net

Hey guys... Im new to the world of sport bikes.. Been ridin cruisers for 9 years and vowed never to get a 'crotch rocket'.. Until I laid my eyes on a Hayabus.. So I traded in my 98 Honda Shadow for a Y2K Red Hayabusa... Oh my god.. Now, I love to go fast, as Im always have my cruisers on full throttle but never have been able to go THAT fast.. Im not afraid of speed, but I am however, definately afraid of going to jail. Any pointers on whens a good time to punch it and how long to keep it there? Also, I live in San Diego, is there anyone else in San Diego that I could go out ridin with? All my friends have cruisers and cant keep up.

...ahh, the quandry! The basic Idea is to be able to SEE ahead of you, and not to have any one around to see you...know where you are and where you are going, and avoid just blasting up to warp speed with no plan...things can get all out of hand rather quickly!

mystic,in reply to your question about where and when to hammer it. try the east county on the 8 east. lots of curvy roads around sunrise hwy. to carve up. then if you want to really jam on it, get back on the 8 east a little ways, it's got some really long flat straits where you can safely open her up.

I'd be cautious of opening her up on any major highways, especially Interstates like the "8". I'm in La Mesa. The CHP are sneaky Bast-ards, they'll jump you if you aren't real careful.

Come up to Carlsbad and run quarters with C. Dolan, me, and the LABusas any Saturday (or whenever we can get those guys to come down). If you want to make the run up to LA to meet those guys at the Stir Crazy in Hollywood (Saturday afternoons also, if I can get my butt out of bed), we can arrange a ride.

The final, most hard-core option is track days at Willow Springs Raceway. For info on that, visit www.LABusas.org. May 29 is the next one, on the big track. It's a bit pricier than running at Carlsbad, but if You're a Hayabusa hero, you might want to look into it.
