Hi there mates!!

I va been earning money enought to buy our bike, the 2005 black/grey Busa. Well, when my local dealer told it will arrive on February i was really sad, and started to see the rest of 2005 models (Yamaha, Honda...), just curiosity. After read all magazines availables i am totally sure that my favourite 4 cylinders bike is the busa. But guys... i have to tell something that turn my world upside down.

This Saturday while taking a drink with the friends i saw an Aprilia RSV 1000 R 2004 on the street. When i was approaching the bike the owner turned it on and i heard for first time the sound of a twin. I have always 'heard' that the Italian Twins sounds and looks different, and really this Aprilia does.

Inmediatly i connected to the aprilia webpage and looked at the pics of the 2005 model that will arrive at the same time (in Europe) as the 2005 busa. I love the red/black scheme, love the tail, love the sound, the personality... but of course there are other inconveniences:

The Aprilia has 'only' 140 hp. and i am wondering: for my country, where the highways aren´t so good (like in USA), 140 hp would be enought?? or that engine would be boring??

I have expreience to ride both and the money to buy one, but don't know which model i prefer to see when i will enter in my garage... the high performance busa or the personality of a RSV 1000??

Thanks in advance, i hope i wont be unpopular for having this doubt... I have to share with you all, kisses

Anothe pic of the RSV, the tail and pipes look really awesome, like the Busa but in a different way

Sorry Man, 140HP TWIN?  Modern Technology?  And in Europe where twisties were Born?  Have to be the RSV, especially painted like that.

The Busa is good for Americans yes, but that's largely because a vast majority of Busa owners spend 80% of their time straight up and down in a straight line. Thats why we get all those stretched slammed and chromed bikes, perfect for cruising and looking good, worth fug all out in the twisties.  America has thousands and thousands of miles of flat, or near flat, straight, featureless, characterless, highways and Interstates, a bigger bike works better here for many folks because of this.  The weight, the stability the physical size helps eat up those miles between favorite riding spots.  Also, AS you have noticed I am sure, there is a vast number of busa riders that are... Umm.... Less than Svelt?  The Busa serves as an ideal sportbike to haul around all that extra size and bulk.

Don't forget that the Busa is now 6 years old without significant updating, it's pretty long in the tooth and there is very little cutting edge left in it.  It's still a super fast, sweet handling bike, but it's sprouting grey Hairs...

The only thing the Aprilia isn't going to do as well or better than the Busa is attempt pull your arms outta socket, carry a pillion, and it probably won't be as comfortable over the long haul.  But I do not think the RSV will be in any way boring, and it sure as hell won't be slow.  Don't think for a minute that the RSV is anything but a top shelf performance bike; the R your looking at is packed full top of the line componants and it looks sweet.  Just get used to the idea of a Busa in the straights eating your lunch.

The only alternative I would say would be one of the modern Japanese Wonder Litres.  Prolly the GSXR1K, the R1, or the ZX10R.  Less money, faster, and better handling (According to the press) than the RSV.  But then you miss out on all the cool factor and bird pulling ability of the Sexy Italian Bike...   However you also miss out on the Maintenance intensive Italian drivetrain.

My $1.50 worth...

I was looking at the same two bikes back in 2003 to. Only 2 bikes i wanted. I didnt want to wait 4 months for the Aprilia to come out with the restyled 04 so i got the busa. Been happy with my choice.

That Aprilia is sweet and I have to agree with Rev. Other than gettin' spanked by a 'Busa you have nothing to worry about. Think it would be a good choice.

Actually the Aprilia pretty much got spanked in every aspect by all the big four jap litre bikes in the magazine showdown

If I had to choose between the two bikes you are considerin' it'd have to be the busa, hands down.

Maybe true Bullet but this is another "Rider" argument... Track and Magazine times really mean Fug all in the world...

Besides, the Italian bikes are at least a little more interesting, prettier to look at... The Jap bikes are all pretty damned similar, fast yeah but a bit vanilla I think.

Coming from the TL ranks, I can understand the love affair with v-twin sound. If I didn't need to have a comfy 2up machine, I may still have the old TL. Aprillia? Bring it on...hell, why not buy both? Me.....just put a deposit on the 05' Triple speed...due in March. Hooligan bad a** looking naked bike. In black, of course. Will look great in my garage beside the king.

Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on the 05 Gixxer 1K. I have my name on the first black one that comes to my dealership. I'm thinking it may be a busa spanker? Will have to wait and see?

I absolutely love the Aprilia Factory! My son has a Mille and it has to be the sweetest sounding bike on the market. We can go anywhere in a group of bikes and everyone always hovers around the Aprilia with admiration. Quality in the Aprilia is second to none and that puppy will still give you a 175 mph and is plenty fast enough to keep the front tire in the air until you are midway through third gear. I think the Aprilia is hands down the best choice if money is not the object and you just want a sexy fun bike. Anyway, how many times do you want that extra ten miles an hour or so you'll get with the busa? But if you are looking for comfort on long trips, you'll find the busa to be much more comfy. Also, none of the V-twins will get very good gas mileage. As far as carving the corners, that Aprilia will do a fantastic job. I'm thinking in your country, the Aprilia is much more popular?

Yeah, good point... it's all pretty much just bench racin' and opinion.

As for the Italian draw, not for me. Gimme the ultra techie jap bikes, man. That's just my thing. The only thing Italian that really draws me in is those sexy arse dark haired Italian women.

Asian bikes and Italian women... Yeah, c'mon!

Man, what a tough decision. You left a lot of variables out for your choice of bike, ie., type of riding, 2-up, touring, etc.

I have a TL and just love the v-twin rumble. The power delivery is very friendly when leaned over in a turn. The busa is a great bike. I would go with the Aprillia. Just too damn sexy.

Don't get jealous, BT! It's all about the rider.
Jealous? Nah, not me. See my reply right after yours.

Friend fo mine and I went and looked at the Aprilia RSVs last week. I gotta say, that bike does look nice. He took it for a ride and said it was a kick in the pants. V-Twins are great, IMHO. I do love the sound, and light ones are a lot of fun in the twisties.

The two problems with the RSV are that it will not be comfy without modification, and you are paying much more for the bike than for a Japanese twin of similar capabilities. The RSV is certainly a great bike, but can you justify the premium you'd pay for it over, say, the Suzuki SV1000S or even the Honda RC51? If you have money to burn, by all means, or if you have to have that look, do it.

Personally, you cannot go wrong with EITHER bike. Whichever one you get you'll find happiness with it (Busa or RSV.) I wouldn't fret too much.
