Which Busa is this?

Never Forgotten
Interesting day; I had jury duty in redwood city ca at 8:30am today and I was running late... I live about 15 miles away in Burlingame CA (just up the 101) and it was turning out to be one of those bad days... I couldnt find my key, my wallet, and then as I was sitting on the busa in the driveway and then i couldnt find the damn garage door opener (closer). I ran back in the house, tore up the coffee table, dining room, the newspaper... frack! found it on the floor next to the fishtank... okay, now its 8:10am, only 20 mins to get to redwood city. the busa's ready to go and im late, nice combo? I get on hwy101 and there isnt much traffic going south and I think RIGHT ON! I kick it into light speed and fly-down-101 and get to the courthouse by 8:26am. I even had enought time to snap a photo of this other busa thats parked in the parking garage. My busa is on the right.

Does anyone know which busa (year) this is ? and is did anyone here on hayabusa.org go to redwood city today?

Mike

bet that dude/chic walked out and was like. schweet.. wonder who that is? haha.

I would say that is a 04 model.  Black/Purple just came out in 2004.  Also 02 Busa's didn't come with gold coloured front brake calipers, or with nitride coated sliders.  My opinion.

No dude, my bike is on the right, i was wondering what the other one was... any body know who might this bike belong to? 03/30/04, Redwood City CA Courthouse Parking lot... oh, 8:27am.

Sorry, my mistake.  Didn't read the last line on your post.

Gentlemen, the bike you see is possibly a 2001 or 2002 Hayabusa. You can tell by the color scheme. Let me break it down for you.

Take a look at the color scheme. Let me give you an example. This is my 99 Busa. Take note of the design on the side fairing. See how it looks oblong? This was the designated design scheme for the 99 and 00 years.

Now take a look at this one. This is a Canadian Version 2002. This was the designated design for the 2001 -2002 years. Take note of the design on the side fairing. See how it resembles a beak? Look how there is a point at the end the curve. This is Fatjap's bike.

And now, you have the design for the 2003 -2004 years. Note the fairing...see how the oblong point is thinner now? It also has a color streak on the rear fairing...whereas the previous years were solid colors. This is a 2003 Hayabusa.

Now there are many other nuances that you can use to tell these years apart, but this seems to be the most accurate way.

Isn't knowledge so fun?

As for the original question, nope, it wasn't mine. I wasn't at Redwood around that time.

Boy you can really tell WHO IS and WHO's NOT Busa enthusiasts.  The silver/gray in question IS an '02.  There is a silver/gray color scheme for both the '02 and '03 Busa...just the design is different.  The design scheme seems to be running on 2 year intervals before a change.  Now the color schemes are random at best with the '99 copper never being copied again (so far...).  I'm almost willing to wager that the Special Edition for '05 will be a solid blue like on the black and blue of '02.  Just have to wait and see...

Good job layin' it out Pacman but you missed one important point on the difference between '01 and '02 bikes bro. In '01 the tail section and hump did not match the "beak" in color. See yer photo of fatjap's ride for an example. In '02 the beak and tail section/hump matched in color. See MikesHardware's original photo for an example.

There may also be some slight differences elsewhere (paint line on the tank?

) but if no paintwork has been done and it's a US bike, the tail section/hump/beak match/mismatch thing is the easiest way to tell.
