Hey Guys,......I am looking for stone cold FACTS only. I appreciate opinions,......but I'll like to make a final decision on a very low mileage Velocity turbo in which a friend is selling in order to upgrade to a GT2871R.

The Question: Does anyone know the EXACT GT2860R that Vecocity uses for their Stage 1 setup?? Garrett has 3 different GT2860R turbos. Does Velocity use one of these and do "their" mods? OR is is a hybrid?

Thanks for the FACTS, Guys!!!

Velocity uses a 2860 plainbearing with a big 47mm exducer exhaust wheel
i believe it would be a better turbo flow wise than most off the shelf units

if it's not the ball bearing, you're looking at the gt2860, not the R. how much is he selling it to you for, if you don't mind my asking?

Why don't you call Velocity and ask them. Wouldn't that be easy.:poke:

I've called,.......and even mentioned being a friend of one of their VERY GOOD customers. But,......since I'm only needing information,.......and not buying anything..........they aren't wanting to give much information. I thought I'd ask some of the gurus on the ORG. Thanks!

You are correct. Decided to call Velocity again,.......talked to Ken. He told me that they use a GT2860 journal bearing turbo for the Stage 1 and Stage 2 setups. The GT2871R is an optional upgrade. It's a dual ball bearing turbo. Thanks for the input, Guys. Guess it was my lucky day on the phone call. I'm going to finish my custom project this year with a GT2860R. (739548-9) It has almost the same compressor map as the GT2871R,........but starts boost sooner. I'm only looking for 6-7 lbs in the 70% and up efficiency range. I think I've found my winner!!!

is the gt2860r the same as the RS?

The R and RS are different in several ways. The R is also known as the GT28R. It is the same in every way as the RS, but uses a GT2560R compressor housing. The RS is known as the "Disco Potato",....given the name from the old Nissan Sentra turbo. (ol' skool stuff) Both are ball bearing turbos. Very broad and efficient compressor maps. Makes a nice turbo for the Busa up to the 360 hp range.

did you pick a turbo yet?

Hey,........thanks for asking. Yes............I'm stuck on the GT2860R. (739548-9) Garrett has 3 of these,.......but this one is basically an RS with different compressor housing. I'll never change the wheelbase or ride height of my bike,.........so 275+ horsepower while never be needed for me. I've had the pleasure of riding a 425+ Gen 2 Busa,........but it is not what I need. This turbo has an awesome compression map for 6 lbs. of boost and it's more compact than the T3/T4 turbos.

Found a place online selling it for $899 plus shipping. GOT TO HAVE IT!!!!

Joe gear that puppy of yours about 18-40 and it will be ok. 1st and maybe 2nd will be a little wheelie prone but 3rd and up WARP SPEED AHEAD.
