Which Tires

It's time for new tires, and I have been looking over some of the threads but haven't really got the answer i'm looking for. What tires are ACTUALLY rated for the the Busas speed? I do a small amount of twisties(looking to do more though) and do some commuting on it. I've seen a fair amount of people talking about the PP's and the Metzlers, but if i'm not mistaken the Metzlers aren't even rated for high speed runs that the Busa can offer. So which tires should I go with? Want to be as safe as possible when pushing 170+

What you are looking for is all about the speed rating. Tire manufacturers rate their tires, so all you have to do is choose the speed rating that you want.

Gotcha!! Thanks for the info. I talked to a guy at the local bike shop here and he said that all these tires that I mentioned were "Z" rated and were 149+ or something like that. Is this correct?

FYI, have run the Metzler "M3s" numerous times at 180+ (topped out w/ TRE)...no problems.

Thanks for your input!! After talking to the guy this morning I think these are what i'm going with. He gave me a price of 185.00 for rear and 119.00 for front, anyone know of anywhere they are cheaper? Keep in mind I will will probably have to pay shipping also, any help is appreciated.

(Charlesbusa @ Sep. 05 2007,13:13) The M3s are rated to 168mph sustained, w rated.

All this info is very helpful!! But I am still curious as to if there is a motorcycle tire that is "Y" rated. According to the info provided that is what would be desireable, right? With the info you gave the M3's are only rated to 168. As we all know, a Busa will pass that, so how safe are these?

If you mostly use it for commuting and want something that will last but also want something that will stick to the corners, my choice is the Avon Storms.

Pretty safe.

Remember its rated to 168mph SUSTAINED. Where can you even do that??

Even at Bonneville they don't run sustained speeds.

If you ran 175mph for 10 minutes....
you just covered over 29 miles

Are you really going to run over 168mph sustained??

No not at all. I just wasn't sure how the rating worked. I thought if it had a 168mph Rating, then I just thought that would mean that is the top speed you should be at for that tire.

220 runs here on a rear M-1 P Spec and Front Pilot Power.
