Which Tyres to buy?

R1 forum guy who lives in UK switched from MEZ3's to MEZ4's to get longer tire life. He says he's getting about twice the tire life and about the same all round performance. He thought the 4 might actually be slightly better than the 3 in the wet. Right now he has a 3 on the front and a 4 on the rear.

Take a look at the tire comparison articles in current Sport Rider. Good info there, and for the money the Bridgestone B56R SS sounds great. Bridgestone rep told me at Long Beach show that it is a safe replacement for the OEM tire, that is, it'll handle the high sustained speeds possible on the Busa.

There's a lot of great data in the articles. I was particularly surprised by the comparison of DOT racing tires to street tires. Street tire rule on the street.

Hi all,
I got my Busa with 3,500 miles on it - it now has nearly 4,000 miles. It has the OE Bridgestone on the front and a
Metzeler MEZ1 on the rear. I want to change the tyres soon and as I live in Ireland I need tyres that work well in the wet :-(
Has anyone any suggestions? What is the difference between the MEZ1 and the MEZ3? Tyres that warm up quickly would be nice too.
Thanks in advance.

How could you doubt me. the Z3's are the best wet tyre. I went through this on the list here before I got mine. For dry only the Michelin Pilots seem to be as good (or better depending on who you talk to) but for the wet there is no better than the Z3's so far.

DirtyPete was the one that told me about them and he does all sorts of conditions.

I have had the 207's and of course the bt56j's and now the michelin pilots and I must say the pilots are impressive. Very stable tire, great wet weather traction and high speed stability. It also grips really well in cold weather. Just warm em up first..................

Thanks Sorehead - of course I don't doubt you :-)
BTW, I live in Leixlip - I forgot to put it in my mail to you. We'll get together after Chrismas for a blast.

Mail and this. We have too much free time in work :-)

If we can find someone with the Black/Grey colour we'll be able to show off all 3 of the colour schemes and go to jail in style.

I've used the Michelin Macadam 90 for years -I just got 6,500 out of my most recent one on my Busa.

I don't ride the race track, so I don't know how they perform there. I do however take a lot of road (back roads) trips and they work great for all of that stuff. I had no problem with them at Deals Gap last June.

They are slick when it's cold, but I don't think they are any worse than other tires I've had.

For $108 (mail order from Chaparral)for a rear tire, I can't beat it!

Get the new stuff, Michelin Pilot Sports.

Several members have them and sportrider just ran an article on tires as well.

Hapo, got a flat on a new one and plunked down the bucks for another.

Don't use the D207,those tires slide like mad when your leaned over, had them on my 98TL-R and was not pleased with the grip, had the sportmaxII D207 and it made you wish you had the BattleX or Sport Pilots.

busagsx1300r - Sorry I took so long to reply.

Chaparral's number is 800-841-2960. Just tell them that you saw their add in the latest Cycle World (ad code 0100CW) Price for a 190/55ZR17 is $108.97, shipping is $7 and it takes about a week for them to arrive.

Cisco, you can't compare the D207 when mounted on a TLR vs. the Busa. Even though the busa has alot of torque, I believe the TLR would ride totally different on the D207's. I usually always run Avon Race rubber on the street, as I am a squid, but for mileage and all around performance I went to the D207ZR's no problems, no sliding (unless I want to!!)
:)

Judas: Ask around, in Europe is Avon still a high rated tire? Ireland conditions are similiar to central Canada's... Let us know... Avon's wear well and handle great. They're race Azaro has already been updated, but the street version is plenty. You can use a rear Azaro with the AV27, the 27 is a special front only tire with lots of stick, high mileage and excellent water distribution..
