Whining issue

Hey guys. New to the forum but I have an issue. I have a 2004 busa with approx 23k miles on her.

When I am riding, and I accelerate to approx 60mph, I can hear s whining noise when I let off the gas. This noise is audible whether the clutch is pulled or not. It honestly sounds like a wheel bearing going out on a car, and he behaves as such.

Any ideas guys? Thanks

Welcome!

My first thoughts would be to look at the condition of the chain and it's tautness. If you suspect the bearing, then pull the rear and check. Good luck!

Assuming the chain and wheel are ok, are there any other possibilities? I put the bike on a rear stand and there was no play in the wheel at all. Is that sufficient to check the wheel? Also the chain tension seems to be ok. Sorry for the newb questions guys.

Thanks again

im having the same issue with my 02 busa with 20k and yet no answer yet, mine makes the noise and it comes from the right side of the engine area not the chain area

Is it a whine or a whistle? Reason I ask is someone had an issue a while back with a loud whistle that was an easy fix but I cant find the thread!

its more of a wirrrr then the faster u go its a weeeeee lol sound so probaly a whistle that starts at a low pitch and wines up to a higher pitch

If its motor, chances are it would make the sound in your driveway. If its only while riding, then exclude the motor and move on to drive componants. ie the chain, wheel bearings, etc. Without some dismantle it might be hard to tell. Maybe you could phone us from your cell while riding so we could hear it and make a diagnosis. Just kiddin'.

Maybe start with wheel bearings. The previous owner may have been the kind of dummy to use a pressure washer to clean the bike,in essence destroying wheel bearings etc. Check for play in those to start with.

RSD.
