Whistling Hayabusa

Let me lay out the scenario:

The other day I parked my Hayabusa in the sun, after it had spent the night in the garage here in NoCal. Overnight temperature probably got down to 60 or so.

I had filled the tank the day before, and then driven the bike about twenty miles, so it was almost full.

I come back to the bike about fifteen minutes later, and it's _buzzing_. Sounds just like a small alarm in an electronic device. I'm thinking "Oh poop, what now."

Its one of those sounds where you can't really tell where its coming from, it seems like its everywhere.

I start touching the bike. Instrument cluster -- nothing. Horn -- nothing. Finally, I touch the gas cap. The noise stops. Huh? I wait a minute or so, it starts again. I dig out the key, and open the gas cap. Wooosh! There's a lot of built-up pressure in the tank. I close the tank, wait five minutes -- Hummmmmm.

So, it would appear that the pressure relief on the gas cap is working, but noisy. Anyone else encounter this one?

Nope, when i fill up i ride so much that tank never stays full hehe.....but thanks for the info.......YOu mean it burps...............

This is very common in all the suzuki's I have owned. A quick fix is not to fill the tank up so high. This will give it room to expand.

i'm sure you know by now that this is cause by the gas getting hot and vaporizing...if the bike had carb's and our ears were good enough you'd here the same thing going on in those also...it's kinda like the gas is boiling...i don't know what colour your bike is but you'll see that this will happen easier on the black one's..the heat of the sun and the heat of your motor cause this to happen...

My GSXR1100, doesn't do this, but my brother's 86 FJ1200 does, real loud like! So this is still a bug that manufactures need to work on. Make sure your fuel overflow/breather hose is not pinched anywhere under the tank, this would definitely make it worse. Check it out!

Dumb question guys. Would a vacuum/pressure in the tank cause vapor locks that could be the cause of our cutouts? Just thinking out loud. Perhaps the next time someone experiences a cutout they could stop and crack the tank lid and let us know the result?
