Jay21112 -
I figured I would post it here instead of PM'ing in case anyone else was interested as you had mentioned.
My mod is as follows:
I mentioned 1 foot, but that was a real rough generalization, they are actually a little shorter than a foot.
With pipes ON bike and mounted follow down the pipes to where there is like a small grove, more like a restriction, then on the other side of the restriction it expands just a little and that is the end that mount on the headers.
Measure from the grove up the pipe.
On the bottom side, measure up 6 inches, makes sure to use a indelible ink marker and make a mark dead center on the bottom of the pipe
On the top side, measure up 9 inches and mark dead center on the top of the pipe.
That is your angle, going from 9 inches to 6 inches
After I made the measurements on both sides I took the pipes off, and by hand made a careful line to follow from the top marker to the bottom mark.
I then used my sawzall with a high tooth metal cutting blade to make the cut.
And I think it is best to turn the pipe upside down in a vise and cut from the bottom end to the top. (I.E. you will be physically cutting downward at an angle due to the pipe being in the vice upside down, but your cut will actually be starting at the bottom (at the 6 inch mark) and going upward towards the 9 inch mark.
Left and right pipes need to be measured individually to ensure each as the proper look. Left and right pipes mount on to the header just a little differently. If you try to look at the left pipe and determine your markings by the welds it won't turn out right.
Nope, sorry to say, haven’t mapped it yet, have not had a spare $300.00 to get one.. anyone want to donate a PCIIIr to me?
Nope, didn’t do the pare valve mod. It seems to be running fine as it is with no other mods, I did not want to do the pare valve mod until I have the PCIIIr in hand and ready to install at the same time (again, like I said, it has been running fine with no other mods, don’t want to mess with a good thing)
I didn’t do anything with the fire blanket, I figured if it stayed in, it stayed in, if it didn’t, it didn’t. And it didn’t.. no harm no foul, no problems
As far as the loudness.. As BA Busa said, it is not as loud as you think. I think it might be as loud as a Busa will get unless you install some kind of pipes that are built with an echo chamber, but look at it this way. Most Harleys (or at least the ones I have seen) are doing nothing more than running straight pipes off the engine. And I believe they have just two cylinders instead of 4, larger explosion, more intense, greater, deeper sound.
So while my Busa is louder than stock and probably louder than most Busa's with cans, I think most Harley's are still going to be louder than mine.
So I get looks, and it is noticeable, but I think on a day to day basis it is not something I am going to get messed with about.
The only time I have EVER had a police officer look at me was a few weeks ago when BA BUSA and I were riding up to Yosemite, we drove through a town and on the side of the road were a few Sheriffs and a few CHP. Rich and I were stopped at a light and when we took off I kind of reved it a little and one of the Sherifs heard my bike which caught his attention and looked at me. But that is the ONLY time I have even had an officer even look in my direction (as far as I know).
I have actually had Harley people come up to me and tell me my Busa sounds bad a$$ for a rice burner.
But the key phrase was "for a rice burner"
It is deep enough and loud enough that I get respect often from the Harley crowd and if not respect, they will at least turn their heads with a WTF look on their face lol
As far as how it runs. I think it runs good, ask BA BUSA, we made a couple of runs that were in excess of 100+
I have not noticed ANY performance degradation whatsoever
Whatchya think Rich.. was it running ok?
I have a set of stock pipes however, so if I get a ticket, it should be just a fix it ticket, put the stock ones on, get it signed off, good to go
Hope this long winded, drawn out reply helps.
Good luck
