About 2 or 3 weeks ago he was asked what question does he get asked the most. His answer was - when is he going to GP. The answer was, and I loosely quote - "As much as I would like to go, I just don't see it happening."

Why is that? I'm sure he has the credentials, and up until this year nobody in AMA could touch the guy.

I think you have your answer. Matt is a great rider and he is to the AMA what Vale is to the GP, but Matt is a little long in the tooth and he has hit his potential. Look at Ben who is making the move and Nicky before him. I think Matt will stay where he is on top as long as he can and then quietly retire. I honestly don't think he would compete well against the tremendous pool of young talent in the GP - Nicky is progressing well, Hopper is moving up, Dani is starting off very well, Stoner, etc. As dominant as he is in the AMA, I think the expectation would be very high, and I don't know how he would fare against the Doctor. Just my .02

Mladins already been there. I cant remember what year it was but I beleive he rode a 500cc 2 stroke for Cagiva. That was before he came to the US. Duhamel also raced in GP's for a little while back then. I just watched the 1991 GP from Hockenheim Germany the other day and saw Doug Chandler in there as well.

I've heard Mat talk about being a family man now living in Nevada and to run GP he would have to travel extensively (obviously) and he just doesn't want to do it. He almost always has his wife and kid(s) with him at the races but this might be a problem for Moto GP around the world.

Why bother,,, with the salery he makes now!!!

he is doing what Scott Russell SHOULD have done...

know his role and enjoy the life it provides him.

It was in 93 and he came in 13 in a field of 15.
