Why I ride

Why do you ride? It's safer in a car. You walk away. You have a radio, heat, a/c, and fit people. Why ride?

I ride to run. Everytime I throw a leg over and shift down I run from my dad dying, the ex, all things that I never got closure from make sense. It's around 35-40 when I head home from work and I'm tighter to that bike than a cat in a tree 60 feet up trying to find motor heat.

But at least I'm on two.

I can say with certainty I twist the throttle and life is "good" again. My friends see a difference in my person. I smile, laugh, and I'm just relaxed. This thing has been the counseling I've needed for years.

I know time tells all, but I intend on riding til I'm 6 feet under pushing up the daisies. If it puts me there so be it. The amount of joy riding put in my life would far outweigh the personal burdens I carry over time. Alls I could ask for is a matching paintjob on my coffin with a kanji on it.

As the saying goes; I'd rather be on a motorcycle thinking about god than in church thinking about my motorcycle.

They had a very good article in one of the cycling mags.

It went something like 2.5% of your normal population need risk in their life. Those are normally also the folks who like to push the envelope and who make a difference in life. Think it went as far as analyzing a person's genetic make up.

If I had a hard day, that Busa sure is good therapy, so is my Husky in the dirt.

If I had a real easy nice day, the wife and I jump on the Harley, 45 - 50 mph, almost no gear and when we come back we both want to fall asleep.

it is who i am....its a part of me as much as breathing....it brings me peace and excitment all at the same time...its duality fits me

This is a poem I wrote for one of my classes.. It was written 2 months after I lost my mom and Don (Rayabusa)

Why?

Why do I do it?

I don’t do it to be a follower.
I do it to be a leader.

I don’t do it to impress others.
I do it to remind myself of my abilities.

I don’t do it to disrupt others.
I do it to inspire those around me.

I don’t do it to be out of control.
I do it to be in control.

I don’t do it because I am crazy.
I do it because it reaffirms my sanity.

I don’t do it to get away from the world.
I do it to deal with reality.

I don’t do it to cut my life short.
I do it to live my life to the fullest.

I do it to honor my friends who are no longer with me.

I do it to honor my parents.

It’s what makes my heart beat.
It’s what makes my blood flow.

I RIDE to be ME.

I know just how you feel lost all I had in my life well, So Now I have me and my 3.5 year old dont get out as much as I did when they were here but I still need it!!!

My Pyschotherapist runs me 2.80 a gallon. Thats why. I love the lifestyle, I met ALL the friends I hang with now on the local forums here (MNSBR and Zero Gravity). I have a close bond with riding on 2 wheels and have been that way since I was 5.

To smile. You are not really living, if you are not riding. Only riders know this

Other thing I would like to do is skydiving. If the view of the world is so much nicer on a bike I can imagine that sky divers and pilots got it even better than the bikers

Thats nice work Busa Jules

I've used this old little saying for years.

Its why I bought a Busa,fast cars,fast harleys,and... fast women.

The saying: "Better to die on your feet, than live on your knee's."

It translates well into most aspects of life.

Keep the RSD.

You don't necessarily have to push the envelope, just be in the envelope.
Other people want to be me. I ride 4000 miles a year on my bicycle and 5000 miles a year on my Busa and I'm only 52 years old. Two weeks ago I'm riding to work, it's 24 degrees out and I'm doing 80 mph in the early morning dark. Joe average see's me blast by, shudders at the thought of being in the cold, going fast ,but consciously or subconsciously knows that there is more life to live out there, but he'll never have the courage to try to live it.

i ride for all of the above reasons and more. I have four children i lov dearly. But i tell you what after a stressful day of being dad there is nothing better or more that i want then to get on the machine and stretch my wings. I ride for my sanity. I ride to remind myself that age is just a number and i can retain that fountain of youth as long as i want. I ride for that feeling of the wind in my hair...lol(shaved head). I ride because its in my blood and who i am.

i've been riding soo long i don't know what else to do. its kind of a mind set. when you wipe out, do you scream "oh god im gonna die!"? or do you think wow there shure is a bunch of room under the back of an explorer, or hay wow, look, i can see the axl spinning..
last time i was on a plane it landed sideways, people were prayin and screamin, i yelled Yee Haw!!.

and besides, riding a motorcycle is fun:rulez::cheerleader:

agreed...............

My Busa is my mini vacation, when im on it i feel like im at the beach, its my reality check, my Anti-Depressant, life saver, the one thing that knows how to put me in my place.........Id be a train wreck with out it!!!!!!! :beerchug:

It's definitely therapy for me. It's funny when I think about it. My wife and I have a house in Daytona Beach which we both love. But unfortunately due to my career choice there wasn't any work for me there. So now I rent a room in Fort Lauderdale for the time being and I have the bike down here with me. I ride it more down here than I do when I'm at home with it. It eases the stress that being apart from your other half puts on you. Sometimes I get on it and want to just keep on riding all the way back home. I'm glad I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I'll be moving back home full time in May or June.
