Why Regular Jeans Just Dont Cut It.......

this guy was minding his own business traveling around 25 mph in a downtown city area when a car decided to do a U-Turn directly in front of him. unsure exactly what cut his leg cause the car left the scene of the accident. im not sure if a pair of kevlar lined jeans would have prevented this but the chances are they would have.

I always recommend wearing gear, but am guilty of not always doing so. I had to remove the second picture because of the graphic nature. I wear overpants to work over my blue jeans now when I ride to work.

im not even sure leathers would have prevented his leg from being fileted like that but the guy was hurten and I felt for him. tried like hell to find the car that did it so he could at least have some insurance company to sue. description was just too vague and no plate. it sure did make me think about my own riding gear since I dont have a set of kevlar pants myself.

unfortunately other peoples misery is what really sinks in cause ur thankful it wasnt you.

What is the purpose of this thread?

To scare us into wearing leathers?

Wear what you like. Ride naked for all I care.

What's next? More gory pics?

Stop moralising.

You missed the point I think. It is not to scare people but maybe to open eyes to something that may not cross someones mind. Things happen. Just and FYI type of post. wear what you want when you ride. I don't care. But the more information a person has the better the decision they can make as to what they want to do to protect themselves. If you disagree with this post or don't like it then don't read it. Keep the negative attitude to yourself. we are a group that tries to help others so it was posted.

Rant off

moralizing? its an accident crash forum moron! its called awareness to ones gear or lack of as well as a reminder bad things can happen even at such low speeds. it wasnt about leathers it was about how ineffective a basic pair of jeans can be at a low riding speed. that is ur idea of being judgemental? ur not all that bright ru?

do you have a thing for guys riding their motorcycle naked? whatever floats ur boat dude....:spank:

I can definitely say that Kevlar jeans helped prevent me from ripping my knee off when I rear ended somebody last year.
My right knee went right thru their tail light and I believe a regular pair of jeans would have shredded from the broken lense and jagged metal. Instead of getting cut up my leg and knee were only swollen from impact.

If I read threads like this 3 years ago, I would not have had a 3" round hole in my knee with my knee cap exposed when I went down. I didn't know what kevlar pants were back then. Had I known, it would have at the very least given me extra food for thought and I probably would not have had my knee scar'd up :banghead:

as for the oe post standard jeans give ZERO protection so you take your chance ???

FFS, I have been riding for 37 years.

I do not need gory pictures to tell me that I should wear leathers....

This concept is obviously new to a lot of you, but riding motorcycles can result in serious injury or death!

Yes! Amazing, but true.

One needs to apply common sense.

One also needs to follow rule 1: do not fall off.

The other day, I rode my bike around the block in a t shirt, sneakers and shorts, AND NO HELMET! Please don't tell the gear police!

Manage the risk.....we are all adults, and expect to be treated accordingly. If you want to ride the twisties in a t shirt, hey - go for it - BUT, be aware of the consequences.

If you want to ride to the local shops in racing leathers, good for you.

Perhaps I am being a little harsh, but, really, what is the point of an "accident/crash forum"?

Hi and thanks for posting, we all get complacent and a reminder of the consequence of our actions when choosing our riding gear can do no harm, then after that you can wear whatever you want.
My buddy and I rode from our hotel in Tarifa to Gibraltar in tee shirts and chinos and man was it good, however, come Monday, when commuting, I might well be pulling on my padded fabric motorcycle pants!!!

Its not about how long you've been riding, I've had my full motorcycle licence since 1973 and 35 motorcycles later I'm still here (Thank you Lord) and still capable of doing silly things. again thanks for posting.

Best regards Stretch

Good reminder. I wear jeans and T's in the summer for around town. Not the smart choice but it's very comfy. Defensive riding skills are just as important. Keep the rubber side down folks and remember we're headed toward winter and road conditions and hazards are changing.
