WindScreen mods

I am 6'1" and would like to have a little more protection and less wind if possible. I have seen several bikes with a Double Bubble but have also been reading about a Laminar Lip set up. What might be the best set up of the two. Any opinions are welcome. And before you guys start in on me I know it is a sport bike and not a Goldwing ( I just sold my 1999 Aspencade last Friday) I just want to relieve some of the direct air and wind buffeting. By the way, I love this thing. Still only 450 miles by I am starting to twist it up some more, up to 8K RPM. It keeps getting better. Oh yea, What are your thoughts on Genmar or Helibar Kits. Should I get the full one piece or the kit with just the spacers.
Thanks in advance,
David

First of all welcome to the board..

I'd recommend The Zero Gravity Double Bubble Screen for your requirements..

Also you would be feeling some pain in your forearms and neck if you're riding a sports bike for the first time.. but you'll slowly get used to it..

Helibars would help releive the initial stress on your body, but would be a detterent later.. specially during high speed runs!!

The ZG DB or PUIG windscreens would be my recommendation. Are you thinking about Helibars or GenMar risers because of some pain your wrists? You may try adjusting your riding position, keep your toes on the pegs and use your stomach muscles.

Had the ZG double bubble on the bike.
Have a Puig racing screen in route.
Heard the Puig is better, but won't know for a few days.

I am new to this Busa. I have had several sport bikes over the years, the last being a GSXR1100W. At the time I thought it could not get much better with a stock bike. This Busa is incredible. I have been on a Goldwing for the last 6 years due to having a bad neck. Meaning I have had 3 major reconstructive surgeries on my cervical spine and have several disc's removed and have various titanium rods, plates and screws in place. I have no problem riding the Busa but am always looking for a better way. Some of the first mods will be installing some type of Riser kit, then a different wind shield. After that will be a TRE then some type of slip on cans for now. In a year or so when I get used to the power and torque I will then start making more serios performance mods. As always all will be done with the help of you guys who already have done these things and have been through the trial and error part. Did I say I love this bike.
Thanks,
David

BSBusa makes a good point. Adjust your riding positon first. I believe also that the risers will be a deterrent once you start really riding it

Oh, welcome to the board. I just passed the one month mark with mine, isn't it great?!!!

I have a Zero Gravity Sport Touring screen and I like it because it gives better wind deflection than the Double Bubble (it's higher/wider.) Either of those screens will also allow you an unobstructed view of the instruments - something I had a problem with when using the stock screen.

In combination, I've also learnt how to get the weight off my wrists by supporting my upper body with back, leg and abdominal muscles, and this has eliminated the pain in my hands. I was considering Genmar risers but I don't think I'll need them now.

Welcome to the board. I have the Zero Gravity Double Bubble. I would recommend more riding time to plan out your mods, use your legs to grip the tank and your abs also to take weight off your wrists.

You will get alot of different opinions on a TRE, they can smooth out the low speed cruising from 2000-4000RPM's....but the main thing that it's supposed to do is allow you to exceed 186 MPH.

As for bolt on exhaust I wouldn't waste my money....it's only going to add 1-3 HP and of course they are going to be louder. A full after market exhaust system and a Power Commander can add 10-15 HP. Alot of people do buy bolt ons and then later go with a full system and never get what they paid for the bolt ons....save your money and do it right the first time.

Bottom line is that you have a wonderful motorcycle....there is plenty of time to mod it any way you want. Enjoy it and don't change anything just because that's what everybody else is doing....make it perfect for you

BaBusa pretty much wrapped it up

I like the 3/4 Gen-Mars . Still fairly low but helps manuvere at dead stop in parking lots ect and also helps when looking over the shoulder vs stock. They help "alot" when coming back in from a trip when town riding causes need for using the brakes time after time yet still allow you to get up on the front when hitting the twisties at a goodly rate .

Some aftermarket screens actually cause helmet buffeting on certain bikes . Don't know on the Busa though . Some look pretty funky too . A different screen is last on my to do list but will be done eventually . Probably the Puig Race

If the 3/4 Gen-Mars are not enough , you can always try adding 1/2 inch spacers from the hardware store and longer bolts . If you buy the 1 1/4 Gen-Mars and they are too much , machining them down would be cost prohibitive .

I have HeliBars and a 3/4" riser on mine and like the feel much better than stock.  But a custom seat like a Tobin that lowers your butt will accomplish the same thing as raising the bars - take weight off your hands, wrists and arms. Raising the bars AND lowering the seat really feels great.

I went through a bunch of screens and have settled on a Zero Gravity Sport Touring screen in dark smoke.  It looks good and works well, too, and the bars clear it - with the Helis and riser, the stock screen and a BD required trimming.  Also, a riser higher than 3/4" will likely require cable and/or wiring harness modifications, as mine are tight but not stretched.

Lower pegs like one for a Buell also help a lot.

I'm 6'4" 250.  So far I've added the PowerBronze windscreen and the 1 1/4" GenMar riser.  I've been to the Beull dealer twice so far trying to get pegs of which I now have a right one.  The parts guy at the only Buell dealer in the area (still over an hour drive each way) can't seem to figure out how to order any OEM parts.  I love the PowerBronze.  It's a little thicker than the stock one and gives you a clear view of the dash.  Not nearly as much wind buffeting on the uppder body or head.  I haven't had the GenMar on for a long trip, but it is alot more comfortable on the short ones.  Here's a pic from the driver's seat.

I just got a Puig dark smoke double bubble and it is one sweet screen, I've had ZG DB before and this one blows it outta the water...I"m 6'2 and I can tuck behind it comfortably and it looks sweet too.

< -- has a Zg. Db. @ 6'4" .. I havent tried the Puig.. so .. I shall "decline " ..on sayin what is best.. but im ok with the ..Zg.Db.

I have the ZG Db and it works better for me, the riser helped out a lot too, since I'm short and it was a long reach for me, more than on other sportbikes. You being tall you might also look into moving the stock pegs down a little too, many options for doing this. I just replaced the stock pegs with some after market ones and gained at least 3/4 of a inch more leg room and kept the stock height. How you may ask, look at the size of the hunk of rubber they put on the stock pegs.
Good luck and welcome.
