Because the Valentine uses a standard phone cord and jack for power, I ran a black cord from the extra connector near the signal lights. When not in use, it tucks out of the way and is virtually invisible.
Remove the right upper fairing (black) panel: 3 allens & 1 snap
Optional: R&R windshield for more access room
Cut a black phone cord to about 18â€
Solder or crimp a small spade end on both center wires (red and green on my cord)
Plug the red spade end into the side of the connector fed by the tan (+) wire
Check the polarity to make sure it is correct. On mine, looking at phone plug, left of center was green (negative) and right of center was red (positive)
Tape the phone cord to the signal light wires and brake hose cover
Turn the handlebars to make sure the cord is long enough and doesn’t bind
I mounted the detector on a Techmount stand (stem mount, from Jester)
Lesson: use water, not grease on o-rings to make inserting the stem easier
Here’s info from past posts on the harness connector:
“There is a connector (not used) in the nose next to the right of the speedo. Use a multi meter to determine which is power and ground and splice her in.
“That black connector is for euro models that use the turn signals as running lights.
“It draws power from the 10 AMP low beam circuit. If you overload it by plugging something in that draws too much load, you will lose your low beam when the fuse blows
