Here’s a couple of pics of where I work every day. The bison herd is in the second pic.

We really don’t get a lot of snow, and the stuff we do get is the super dry powder. It’s the cold that will hurt you. I’ve seen -57F, makes you not even want to go outside lol.
I know that kind of cold/snow.....I've spent a lot of time in the high arctic training....the snow was like styrofoam and the wind would howl bringing the crazy windchill with it....

We did an exercise where we spent a week in the arctic then boarded aircraft and flew to an area in the South American rain forest, we changed our equipment on route......they called it climate shock......and it was....

What happens during winter? Do they migrate somewhere else or just survive the climate?
They move around some, they will head a little further south towards the mountain range, it’s quite a bit warmer there without having to go super far. For the most part, they tough it out, it’s amazing what they can deal with.

They were definitely eying me as I drove up on the herd. You learn really quick to keep your distance while they are on the road and have calves. We have had some trucks get bashed up from people pushing them too hard.

On tour in Yellowstone NP with my son one year we had to stop behind several cars watching/waiting for three behemoths walking down the other lane. My son was closest about 4-6’ from them as they passed. The first one was the size of a VW and the two following were the size of Smart cars. Thankfully they didn’t veer over into our lane.
